Malts:Pilsner, Flaked Oat, Munich, Cara Pils, Black Malt, Chocolate, Roasted Barley
Hops:Columbus, bobek, Centennial

Barrel aged on Chardonnay Barrels. Black Maria is an American inspired Black IPA. It is black as an stout and hoppy as an IPA. The beer has been brewed with a good amount of highly roasted Carafa Malts, but with a relatively low amount of caramel and chocolate malts. This way we get the burned bitter and delicate chocolate notes in the beers, that goes well with the bitter and fruity aromas of the hops. The lack of caramel and chocolate results in less residual sweetness that you normally pick up from an Stout. For the hops we wanted some hops that could stand up against the Carafa malts. Therefore we used a mix of Columbus, Centennial, Galaxy and Cascade for the hop profile.

Words from our label designer Kasper about the label:
The label shows the inner yard of the Copenhagen Police Yard folded out on 4 pictures with a quote and a name merged together. The shitty tree on the neck-wrap stands in contrast to the main labels monumental expression. The police is as fake as the quality of the wood. The label is dedicated to police commander Bjarne.

UPDATED: NOV 29, 2014 Aroma: grass, coffee, citrus, resin, cocoa, chilli, grape, caramel, vanilla, bubblegum; Appearance: dark brown, small foamy head; Taste: medium bitterness, medium sourness, slight sweetness; Palate: slick texture, full body, average carbonation, long finish Pretty dry after aging, yet still pretty drinkable and with well-hidden alcohol. Crosses style borders between black IPA and a RIS thanks to maturing.

Amazing black ipa. A real grower. Beautiful roasted smell. Some nice light fruits appear. First taste bitter - tropical fruits - heavy yet light. Easy drinkable. Demands more. The roasted malts settle in an amazing marriage with the fruits. Amazing! ---Rated via Beer Buddy (iOs)

Flaske,375 ml. Brunsort, cremet lysebrunt skum. Dufter heftigt af vådt træ. Og let sødlig mørk chokolade. Chardonnay. Salt-lakrids. Cola-frugt? Fyldig, hårdtristet og bitter. Træ. Trods fadet og de ristede noter stadig en black ipa. Og overraskende nok næsten bedre end originalen. Ren meditation.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus. Opaque black color, medium to full sized creamy brown head that lasts for a long time. Aroma is malts, roasted malts, some hops and some wine influences. Taste malts, lightly hops, roasted malts, again some wine influences, nicely bitter. Oh this is nice, very nice.

375ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a large light tan head, which lasts well and leaves good lacing. Pine needle and grapefruit hops mix with soft toffee, black coffee and a touch of oak to create the aroma. Prickling pine needle and grapefruit hops up front give way to roasty malt and black coffee in the mid-palate. Bitter cocoa leads into dry, slightly spicy chardonnay in the finish. This is a very nice, complex black IPA, highly enjoyable. Kudos for the Clash reference too.
