To Øl Frost Bite is an American Pale Ale brewed with orange peel and pine needles. It is so frosty that it needs to be stored cold and may bite if you touch it. This beer is all about the balance (not the bass). Imagine the flavours of pine needles and orange peel. Now imagine the same flavours only represented by Aurora, Citra, Tettnanger, Simcoe and Amarillo hops. This hoppy dry mix of spices and hops makes for the perfect Winter American Style Pale Ale.

Ingredients: Water, barley malt (Pale, Cara Red, Munich, Pilsner), flaked oats malt, pine needles, orange peels, hops (Aurora, Citra, Tettnanger, Simcoe, Amarillo), yeast.

Bottle from Craftissimo at home on cold Sunday afternoon. Orange amber pour with creamy dense slightly tan head. Aroma is sweet malts, resin hops, nice and appealing. Taste is surprisingly rich and full flavored for a pale ale, lots of pine and some fruit hops. Quite malty. Very good.

Drank with Matt after lunch with Ming-mei, Tiff, and ICS friends. From Craftissimo. Bright hazy orange-tan. Medium off-white creamy fluffy head. Good lacing. Smells of orange, orange peel, hop, faint cinnamon. Taste is dry resin bitterness, faint spice, very hoppy for a pale ale but not much else going on. Body is gently fizzy, slick, medium, resin finish. Taste is somewhat thin but otherwise a fruity resinous pale ale.

bottle at home from alesela
quite heavy with fruity ale yeast esters, low bitterness...no obvious sign of the additions...wasn’t aware they had been added and nothing shone on tasting. a rare miss from To Ol

Bottle. It pours mostly clear deep golden with a quite big off white head. In the nose I catch pine and hoppy fruity notes. Good malty backbone. Citrusy and piney flavor. Grassy and fruity. Caramel malty notes.

Bottle - pours a mostly clear amber/orange with a thick fluffy off white head that slowly fades. Nice light aroma with notes of biscuit, citrus zest and mild nuttiness. A mouthful reveals favors of toasted wheat, pine resin, citrus, poppyseed and lemongrass.

To snifter; ruby-red/amber gold pour with explosive head. Nose of sweet malt and earth, faint hoppy pine and zest, flowery and rindy, gently tropical. Inoffensive, mild. Flavor is clean, malty sweet, little bit of citrus zesty kick, tropical hoppiness very faint after a couple swishes. It’s decent, it’s not the best To Øl has made, certainly not the most potent or hoppy. Seems like it’s hard for all these brewers to really get the full effect of brewing with pine needles. The essence is there, but the fermentation/boiling seems to achieve a much different flavor profile than fresh spruce. Better off with the classic piney hops than actual needles. Still good, just very mild. Real cool label though!!!
