Bottle thanks to Brian! Pours opaque black with a medium creamy brown head that lasts a long time and laces well. Aroma is quite coffee forward, backed by rich roasted malts and dark chocolate. Flavor is the same, rich mocha flavors, light plus sweet and strong bitter; perhaps too strong. Fair amount of acid from the coffee as well. Lingering bitterness to the far far finish. Fairly full body, fairly creamy. Why does it have to be so bitingly bitter? You know, sometimes you need to come to terms with a beer. What was blindingly bitter at first mellowed out after breathing (and or killing my tastebuds) and turned into something wholly enjoyable. b3shine (9143) - Indiana, USA - OCT 25, 2012
Bottle to snifter (thanks tmoney99). Looks solid; a murky cola with iff-white lacing. Smells of malt and bother coffee. Tastes like it smells, only bettwe, with a good mouthfeel. Nice. The_Osprey (9126) - Richmond, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 20, 2014
Bottle BB Jan 2017. Thick black pour into a snifter, small brown head. Aroma - sharp alcohol, some chocolatey coffee, orange and piney hops. Body is medium, a bit foamy in the mouth, touch of carbonation. Taste - initially very hoppy lime and mixed citrus, mint, coffee. Finishes ashy, burnt toast, slightly dry and astringent. I’ve had numerous IPAs that are less hoppy than this. There’s a lot to like about this one (particularly the finish) but I think it would have been better without bucket-loads of American hops. 12.7oz green glass bottle pours very dark with a thin mocha colored head of foam. The aroma offers up big roasted coffee beans with a mild degree of dark roasted malts and malt sweetness in the background. The taste is rich with roasty coffee notes as well as lesser amounts of sweet malts, dark roasted malts, a dash of burnt malts and hints of spicy black licorice. Into the finish it just gets all sweet and nectar like and demanding another sip. Great stuff with plenty of depth, richness, smoothness and yum to keep me happy. (Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 27 Sep 2014) Black colour with frothy, brown head. Malty, roasted nose with sweet espresso, dark chocolate and muscovado sugar. Malty, roasted taste with notes of strong sweet coffee, dark chocolate, a touch of soy sauce, dark fruit and a fairly sweet finish with a generous coffee bitterness. Full body, oily mouthfeel, with a certain sweetness. Quite powerful, with lots of black coffee. Excellent beer! nimbleprop (8750) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - DEC 26, 2014
375ml bottle pours a very murky, opaque black with some creamy, beige head. Nose has fresh coffee bean, reminded me a bit of the fruity beans that come out of barrels, some wet earth, licorice, mild booze, some cola, some raisin, but mostly just nice/approachable coffee bean. Flavor has some more complexity, molasses, licorice, some distinct char, roasted malt, coffee beans, cola, some barbeque sauce, some plum, a little duck sauce, a little black cherry. Interestingly, a lot of the flavors can also be found in high end coffee bean. Full bodied, lightly hot finish. jredmond (8644) - New York, New York, USA - JUL 1, 2012
Sampled at THE FESTIVAL. Pours a dark brown body with thin frothy lacing. Aroma is sweet malts and Espresso roast. Mouthfeel is medium to thick with notes of sweet coffee roast, caramel and chocolate malts and sweet booze. Plovmand (8621) - Grindsted, DENMARK - MAY 30, 2012
Bottle at home. Pours jet black with a medium tan head. The aroma is hard roasted malt, coffee, bitter malt, hops, liquorice and light chocolate. The flavour is sweet roasted malty, liquorice, light chocolate and lots of coffee. A good hoppy kick as well. Very nice indeed.
