12.2%ABV. Imperial Stout. Poured out black and sinuous. 40ºSRM. Nose develops as the beer comes up to room temperature: peat smoke, sweet tobacco, coffee, caramel, wood like hickory or unmatured pine. There is a special sweet spiciness to the nose that suggests like a roasted ripe red pepper or a fresh salsa of chipotle. Some medicinal aromas start to come out near the end. Aroma of fresh licorice. Aroma of a properly ripened date or honey plum. Cognac alcholic nose. There is a pleasant creamy sweetness and warmth at the end which is not unlike tasting a middling Speyside at cask strength. Mouthfeel is syrupy. Palate is heavy and laden with complex flavors: molasses, brown sugar, cherry liqueur, coffe, raw chocolate, mole, stone fruit, honeyed apricots and dates, Palate is rounded and fruity with full bodied beautiful sweet flavors. The finish is nectar sticky and yes, there is a nice spicy kick from the chilies but there is so much going on this brew that you hardly have time to appreciate the obvious, which is the chili. Goes on Favorites List!

Süßlicher, sehr weicher Antrunk von vollmundigen Malz. Nuancen von Chili, deutlich schokoladig. Langer cremiger Nachhall, spritzig, nie alkoholisch. Gut. 12/12/12/12/10/12

Ummm, yea. In the last few weeks Ive really come to realize i am spoiled. So much good beer readily accessible now a days. Dark thick oil, just like I like my beer. Thick creamy tan head. Creamy chocolate/mocha. Chipotle adds a wonderful touch. Thick. This would be fun next to an Abraxas. Acidic, but it should be.

Fantastic beer. Lots of flavour, complex smell and palate. Thick and savoury. Great colour

WYGLĄD: Barwa czarna, nieprzejrzyste. Piana drobna, średniej wysokości, oblepia szkło.
AROMAT: Średnio intensywny. Torfowo-wędzone. W tle zboża, nuty paloności oraz kakao.
SMAK: Słodkie, syropowate. Dominuje karmel i czekolada. Posmak alkoholowo-papryczkowy, lekko piekący. Oleista konsystencja.
OGÓLNIE: Doznania smakowe w tym piwie są wręcz powalające.

Bottle. Fat roasty nose, big chocolate, dried fruit, berries, wood, and alc. fumes. Deep, dark brown color, with a thin dark tan head, slick on the glass. Massive chocolatey initial flavor. licorice, coffee, very light pepper, some definite alcohol presence. The pepper emerges more strongly in the finish, in long tingling tracks. Medium body (a bit thin for the style and the extreme alc. level). This one was 2-3 years old, a full of ripe flavors, with the pepper notes perhaps worn down a bit. Solid stuff, warming and very tasty.

Bottle, pours black with a beige head. Light smokey (roasted vegetables) aroma with chocolate, espresso and slightly boozy. Taste follows pretty much with a good balance between sweet and bitter. In the finish the chili comes creeping though, with a light tingling on the tongue, slowly becoming more pronounced without becoming offensive. Lovely.

DonKromann (112) - DENMARK - JAN 14, 2016
From bottle. Pours pitch black with a light brown foam. Aroma is chocolaty and fruity. The fruitiness is clearly from the chili, due to the peppery sting in the nostrils, not too strong, but very pleasant. The taste is chocolate, roasted malt, chili and smoke. The capsaicin from the chili gives a very nice subtle sting on the tongue. Very good!

37.5cl bottle served in a snifter. Aroma is ashy and earthy coffee with some heavy malt presence. Taste is wonderfully smooth with roast coffee grounds, vanilla, tobacco and a slightly ashtray notes. Complex and perfectly balanced with the heat of the chillies really adding another dimension to the taste profile and a nicely viscous mouthfeel adding to the marshmallowy sweetness. Not quite up their with the Bombs and Mexican Cakes of this world but a very accomplished Imperial Stout and a relative bargain.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2017 Pours like motor oil black color, haze, with stable foamy light brown head. Visually low carbonation. Aroma: rich and intense aroma of dark malt, which takes on coffee, bittersweet dark chocolate, supported with hop aroma, which takes on dark and forest friuit, and with spicy aroma of chilli peppers. Flavor: rich and intense malt flavor, which takes on cocoa, cacao bean, espresso coffee, molasses, vanilla, supported with spicynes of chilli peppers, which actually takes more on smokyness, and with hop flavor in the background, which takes on dark forest fruits. Body is full, texture is very silky smooth, carbonation is low, alcohol warmth is very discrete and gentle. Taste is fistly very sweet, with sticky, slightly spicy, dry finish. Spiciness lingers long in aftertaste. Another very good imperial stout, made in Proef brewery.
