Tap @ mikkeller & friends. Hazy dark amber body with a small offwhite head. Dark fruit, light boozy, toffee, sugary. Nice beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12.7oz bottle, purchased around 6 months ago. Shared with caterwaul. We had just drank the base 1 beer before this. Hazy amber reddish color. Thin khaki head. Good rows of lace. Dark fruit, vinous. some wood in the nose. Good, smooth, sort of creamy lighter carbonation, as in the base. Bigger body. Nice oaky, woody aroma. Dark fruit. Some raisin, vinous notes, plum. Moderate bitter, light sweet. Again, alcohol is pretty well-hidden. Less warmth detected here, even, maybe more sweetness than the base, though. Very smooth barleywine, but I don’t think it’s any better or worse than the original version. More sweet grapey dark fruit, less earthy hop bitterness, less alcohol warmth. Both very good, tasty, and easy-drinking, but in very different ways.

(Rating #5198)

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours cloudy brown with a light, khaki head. Immediate aroma of honey, toffee, dried apricots and muscatel. Flavour is thick - honey drenched apricot, caramel and a hit of muscatel at the back of the palate on the way down. Big, rich body you’d expect from a barley wine - but this carries a bit of extra complexity from the muscatel. Grapes, a touch of cherry and the aforementioned apricot. Nice bitterness off the back. Fuck yeah.

Pours a two finger cream head that fades very slowly leaving a good lace. Almost clear brown color. Good carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Burnt sugar and some dark fruit nose and flavor is same burnt sugar, with caramel and dark fruit. High ABV is hidden. Seriously expensive at $12.99 for a 375ml bottle from Julio’s Liquors Marlboro, MA.

Cloudy dark amber beer with a big pale cream coloured head. Smooth palate, slightly soft and quite dry. Mild fine carbonation. Sweet creamy malt, dry. Dry wood. Back end is sweet dessert wine with orange and white wine notes. Finishes dry with woody bitterness. Too much dry wood dominates what otherwise could have been a very good beer.

Bättre än den varianten som inte legat på fat men forfarande inget som imponerar direkt. Mer balanserad.

gyllenbock (9713) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - OCT 6, 2013
Sample at SBWF 2013. Hazy orange with a small head. Quite sweet with alcohol, oak, dried fruit, biscuist and white wine. The body was thick. The finish was long.
