It was a weekend with two Smoked Imperial Porters, and both were rather light in the smoke department. And that's totally okay considering how balanced and complex they both were. Smoke on the Porter- Fire in the Rye tastes like the brewers had as much fun making it as they did with naming it. You pick up some smoke on the nose and at the front of the mouth. From there, sweet malt takes over with chocolate and toasted brown sugar. Some of that savory smoke comes back a bit in the peppery finish. Remarkably, the spiciness doesn't hit you until the end. When it comes, it's warm and invigorating. It's enough to raise your eyebrows, but it isn't so much as to make you feel like to you were just slapped. They're subtle, but you can pick up some lingering earthy herbs - pepper, grass, chicory, and tobacco. In terms of sheer complexity, this might be the best Smoked beer that I've ever had. A- Black color, black liquid, light brown head.
T- Chilies, slightly spicy, fudge.
P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish.
O- RB calls it a Imperial Porter, name implies porter, ingredients suggest specialty grain or spiced/vegetable beer, and description claims it's a stout. Whatever this is, it's delightful to say the least. Drinks really smooth for almost 14%. Chilies are very much there but not too spicy. Mostly leaves a lingering hotness on the palate in the aftertaste. Good amount of heat for a cold winter night. Not much stands out in terms of rye. Fair amount of chocolate that comes across as a dark fudge brownie like quality. Not sure I get a whole lot of smoke either. Inbreak (7160) - Loddefjord, NORWAY - FEB 22, 2018

Nice light brown fizzy-creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich and smoked, licorice, dark malts, grass, smoke chili, pine needles, weeds, dark sugar, minerals. Taste is slightly sweet mineraly, dark sugar, mild grassy chili, minerals, dark malts, hay, grass, pine needles, weeds, paper, toast. Medium bitterness, slightly sweet mineraly mouthfeel with a nice warming chili touch. Nice.
Smoke is not really present. Overall a damn good beer. Viscous and inky with a ton of complexity. Love the heavy saturated roasted malts, cocoa, chili peppers, rich espresso notes. Beautiful nose that is actually much calmer than I expected. Booze is not very present and adds just a bit of warmth. 500ml bottle pours black in colour with a finger and a half of white head that settles to leave very little lacing behind. Aroma is roasted grains and chocolate with some roasted grains, chili pepper and smoke. Taste is a chocolate malty sweetness with a roasted grain bitterness and a heat from the peppers and a smoky finish. Medium to full bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, a manly brew that is quite strong and boozy with a bit of heat to it.

Bottle shared at home thanks to sjogro. Black with good sized light brown head. Oh yeah some smoke, sweet chocolate, quite some chili, dark bread, sugar, bacon, marzipan, fudge. 375 ml bottle from the Party Source at home. Pours a dark cola brown color with a large fluffy khaki colored head.
