Fatehunter (2615) - Corbett, Oregon, USA - MAY 30, 2012
Poured into a wide flute glass. Dark brown with a reddish hue and a two inch dirty white head that quickly fells to a quarter inch. Smells of rich roasted malt, a little chocolate and some citrus. Very pleasant. Unfortunately the taste does not follow the smell. Watery, light roasted malt and a little burnt malt. There is some citrus bitterness and a touch of rye spice. It is too subtle. Light body, moderate carbonation. It is the first black rye IPA I have come across and I like it for that. I wish it had some more flavor to it, more rye or malt, either one would work well.

Draft Third of a Pint at GBBF 2011 (Day 1), Earl’s Court, London Aug 2011 - Deep Brown/Black in colour with light tan head. Malty; roasty malts, chocolate, toffee, caramel, coffee, some smoke. Hoppy; piney resiny hops. Fruity; spicy grapefruit citrus. Nice balance; sweet roasty malts meet citrusy hops. Easy drinking; not aggressive. Nice Black IPA! (2011-08-02)

JPDIPSO (6287) - Wauwatosa, USA - NOV 30, 2016
Murky dark brown liquid with a modest tan colored head and some lace. Grains, spicy rye, with grassy to piney hops in the scent. Strong hops in the flavors from the start, some sweeter toasted malt and spicy rye wander in and out. 9/11

[email protected], Helsinki. Deep brown color, tan head. Roasted malt aroma. Dry flavor with coffee, black patent malt. Medium-full body, medium carbonation. More of a stout than a black IPA, but not bad.

Draft at Old C’s. Pours very dark brown with a thick creamy beige head. Smells like cookie malt, caramel, toasted, heavy pine hops, resin, light yeast, and grass. Tastes like a nice balance of bitter hops, sweet malt, and rye. Medium body and carbonation. Dry finish.

Black pour with pillowy head. Big hops and caramel some pungent hops. More caramel on the palate and really carbonated that makes the brew a bit spicy and peperry. Very good.

Chudwick (3369) - Taylor Mill, Kentucky, USA - APR 9, 2015
12oz bottle that was a little expired (best by Sept 15 2014) - Roasty for sure. Bitter but not overwhelming, just quite noticeable. Would love to try a fresher version. Slight bleh aftertaste.

(Keg at Tommyknocker, Helsinki, 20150403) The beer poured very dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and almost white. Aroma had burnt malts and fruitiness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, liquorice, sweetness, burnt malts, pine and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt, hoppy and bitter. A nice hoppy dark ale.
