COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tongerlo Prior is a full-bodied beer with fruity notes that develop into a spicy and slightly flowery bitterness of hops. An authentic abbey ale, the age-old tradition of the White Canons of Tongerlo lives on in this officially recognised Belgian abbey ale. Re-fermentation in the bottle gives this beer a more intense taste and aroma as well as a longer shelf life. Tongerlo Prior was chosen as the best European blond abbey/trappist ale in the 2011 World Beer Awards.

Bottle, 330 ml, poured into a tulip glass at home. ABV 9% Crystal clear body, thick white head, two fingers tall. Soapy in texture, with very good duration, it left thick lacing webs around the glass once it collapsed a bit and during the drinking. Aroma is fruity, yeasty. Very typical tripel aroma, plus some alcohol notes. Nice taste, also typical but a touch above average. Fruity taste with peaches, yeast, sugar, some alcohol notes and an even more fruity aftertaste with light bubblegum brushes. Medium thin body, carbonation on good levels. More than okay tripel, it seems at first like your average one, but it shines on the aftertaste and overall experience.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2013 (Bottle) A pretty good Triple , man the lame ones are like something that a bumb should drink on Skid Row .. When I find a good take on a triple , like this one , my mind recalls a class A triple like St Feuillien .Im not one of those who hollas Westmalle as the epitome of style, never really liked it ... Drank this from a large Leffe goblet.. Reminds me of Coors light to look at , but doesnt drink down like Coors , nah !. sPiCy ,dry and toffeeish ..booze covered over orange zest ... but the booze aint in an obvious kinda sick jet fuel texture like some in this style- its slick.. A good take on a triple for sure !

Pretty nice. 9%. Caramel and candy and lots of sweetness "belgian style" in both aroma and taste. Lots of character, and refreshing. A bit too carbonated, and I miss some aftertaste.

330 ml bottle. Slightly hazy golden with white head. Aroma with loads of bananas, plus sweet malt and alcohol. Taste is boozy, banana, esters, sweet malt with a kind of grainy finish with alcohol.

nice cloudy looking, but not much head, which can not be expected on a 9% beer. To sweet and a bit unbalanced. to much alcohol in the aftertaste.

(Bottle). Aroma and taste of sour malt, yeast and citrus. In the flavor there is elements of alcohol. Fairly unbalanced beer, but drinkable.

13.11.12 By sheer coincidence I grabbed this bottle out of the fridge on its Best Before date, after sitting in the fridge for several months. Presents an orange gold body with a big billowing white head leaving clumpy lace. Rich malt aroma; white sugar, golden syrup, biscuity malt with ripe banana & stonefruit esters. Dried apricot and spices in the background. Thick texture, creamy carbonation, spicy on finish. Grainy malts on the body supported by plenty of sweetness. Flavours of very ripe apricot and peach. Booze sneaks through on a moderately bitter finish. Pretty standard Tripel-style. Lacking the smoothness and complexity of great examples of the style.

330ml bottle from a German supermarket. Huge off-white head. Clear, golden body. Malty aroma with light hop bitterness. Very lively. The taste is pretty good and defined, but I dont like the sweet aftertaste.
