COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Is a robustly flavored ale made with top fermentation ale yeast. The beer is lightly hopped and black malt gives it darker color. The fruity ale-like esters blend well with the subtle hoppiness and hints of coffee/chocolate to deliver a unique beer.

courtesy of Philipp and Thomas - clear brown beer with no foam left; aroma of wort and dextrose; thin-bodied, tart and astringent; short and vanishing aftertaste of cola and herbs - terribly insignificant

Old, but not old as in aged. Old as in that puff of dust you get by hitting an old cushion. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: AUG 22, 2017 On tap. Schooner. Pours a ink black with a small tan head. Aroma: Roasted malts dominate. Mild coffee beans, toasted bread, dark chocolate notes. Taste: Malts dominate the flavour balance. Slightly creamy texture. Moderate carbonation. Mild bitterness lingers on the palate. A very good dark beer.

Light toasted, nutty and toffee malt aroma and upfront sweet malt flavours of the toasted and caramel type. Mild and easy drinking with some malt depth but fairly thin body also. Low on the bitterness. Pleasant enough.

Bottle 375 ml / Bier-Bienne (CH). Dark brown with a fleeting beige head. Aromas of caramel, dark fruits and prune, toast and cola. The mouth is very fluid, slight beer with notes of cola, nuts and roasted with a burnt tip.

At the bolltle-o. It has been brewed for a very long time. I first considered this a very flavoursome brew with its roasted malts dominating. Very little bitterness comes through. Now having sampled the wider selection of dark/brown/black ales on the market, the taste feels a bit tamer. Still a favourite tho; very much a session, year round drinkable beer. And.... you get very few hangovers from it. To all you home brewers, try brewing this and push up the bitterness with a good dose of Pride of Ringwood, a ripper!

Aroma of tarry smoke and toasted bread. Taste of dark chocolate and (vanilla?) smoke. I quite like this beer.

Bottle. Pours black not much else can be said here. Aroma. Mocha and Biscotti on the nose. Taste. Nothing Special, slight sweetness, slight roastiness and a slight coffee taste. Overall. I normally drink this on tap, probably just a touch better on tap but still alright poured from the bottle.
