Lives up to its Red name with a weird reddish look. Has a very week hops smell with an almost sweet after tone.
The type of beer that turns up in your fridge after a party and remains there for ever.
375ml Dose. Goldene Farbe, fast kein Schaum. Geass, Heu und Getreide in der Nase. Geschmack flach und süss. Dervock (1407) - AUSTRALIA - JUN 1, 2015
Bottle - golden pour with plastic looking white head. But of malt on the aroma. Slight sweet start mild finish. TedE (1392) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - FEB 27, 2015
Ok, this is the cheapest of the cheap in the Tooheys stable so........750ml bottle (twist-top!) into schooner glass. Skunky nose from bottle, cooked vegetables from glass. Pale amber beer with many bubbles and lasting billowing white head. Has a chalky mineral water taste that zings on the tongue. Abrupt finish with a little malt, hard to find any hops in here. Actually palatable if you are desperate. Must be very cold. Lawnmower beer? Yes. BBQ beer? No. Kita (2194) - Koper, SLOVENIA - FEB 10, 2014
Can, 0.375l. Clear pale golden color with large frothy white head and average sparkling appearance. Aroma is malty, grassy, grainy and vegetably. Taste starts with moderate sweet malt, fresh grainy sour and metallic following, dry mouthfeel and light bitter finish. Light body, thin texture and average carbonation in palate. Oh my deer, nothing special... KeefOz (1879) - Tarragindi, AUSTRALIA - AUG 4, 2013
Poured a clear pale amber colour with a thin white bubbly head that diminished quickly and developed moderate lacing. Moderate carbonation with medium sized bubbles forming trails. Aroma of sweet malt. Taste slightly sweet followed by a very mild, almost nil, hops bitterness. Light body bordering on watery. A weak flavoured nothing beer that is not really bitter.

You look at the can, and just know its gonna be bad. Pours a celar gold, moderate carbonation and a frothy white head. Bready, malty aroma, a bit funky. Empty, watery flavour and texture. Slight bitter after taste. oh6gdx (26488) - Vasa, FINLAND - JAN 20, 2012
Bottled (thanks to my cousin Kaj!). No matter what the name says about red, this beer pours a golden colour with a white small head. Aroma is bready malts, some slight floral and herbal notes as well. Flavour is malts, some mild grassy and herbal notes along with mild bitterness. So atleast the "bitter" part is true in the name, even though to the style it is a pale lager. Better than expected. bman1986 (173) - Broadstairs, Kent, ENGLAND - JUN 22, 2010
If heavily chilled then I actually don’t mind this one all that much. Sweet and slightly malty it’s certainly a better drink than Tooheys extra dry in my opinion, and it’s cheaper. Maris (1554) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - JUN 12, 2010
From a 375ml bottle on 13/6/2010. A nostalgic trip back to the days when I was a young man and would buy cases of Toohey’s Red because it was nearly always on special. I’m pretty sure it used to be more than 4%. So how does it scrub up now that I know what a really good beer tastes like? It’s actually not quite as bad as I thought it would be. It does actually have a discernible sweet, malty, grassy aroma. In the mouth, it’s sweet, a touch metallic, with a very slight hint of hops. There is worse out there, but my case buying days are over. mkel07 (6212) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - SEP 27, 2009
375ml can. Honey colour with a deep dense white foam blanket. Aroma of soap suds and dish water. Light and sweet flavour with nothing that really comes through. Very basic and boring.
