Deep brownpour. The aroma is really toasty and sweet. Brown bread, soft earthy/spicy hoppiness and a bit of peppery character. There's a bit of light fruit/dates with a bit of clean malt character. Really rich and chewy. Tasty malt and a bit of cooked character. Rich, balanced and tasty. Delicious.

2017-05-26. Very dark brown body modest beige head. 3+ Aroma is sweet, caramel and lightly sugary malt. Light toasty accents. Flavour is similar, sweetish caramel sugars, toasty malt. Vaguely Belgian quality to the caramel notes. Smooth average bodied palate, good carbonation. Solid take on the style. 7/4/7-8/3/15-16 On tap at Tooth and Nail, Ottawa.

(Rating #7674)

A deep dark brown Bock with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with dark fruits, banana esters, light cloves and chalky notes, alcohol warmth, OK. In mouth, sweet caramel malt with light grassy hops, light mineral notes, dark fruits, plums, chalky character, light alcohol warmth, pleasant. On tap at brewery.

[Draught at Bar Hop] Pours a very deep amber with an average size lasting frothy beige head and some lacing on the glass. Nice aroma and flavour (7+) of dark fruit, dark malt, a touch of maple syrup, some nuts and brown sugar. Could be a touch more carbonated. Average bodied. Pretty good Bock.

My Bottom Line:
Cranberry jam is evoked by this Doppelbock’s Munich malts, offering a well-rounded, comfortable example of the style.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A healthy head of foam tops the dark red mist.
-This has enough drinkability to please even the most finicky German drinker.
-Malt flavors are well developed.
-Alcohol is not a bother at all.

Can: Poured a clear dark brown color ale with a nice light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt notes with light dry cereal notes also noticeable. Taste is a mix of dry caramelized malt notes with some cereal notes and light dry finish. Body is about average with good carbonation. Well brewed Doppelbock with great balance.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours an average size frothy tan head that dissipates to a nice full coating and has a fairly dark amber appearance. Decent lacing. Aromas of dark malts, notes dried fruits (plums, raisins). Flavours are pretty much similar to aromas with the dried fruit at the forefront, a little bit of caramel, very subtle. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Great retention. Average carbonation. Somewhat sweet in the finish. Good stuff.

355ml can. Clear burgundy with a foamy beige head. Flavors are raisins, plums, grapes, toasted bread, maple syrup and chocolate with medicinal and nutty notes. Medium to full body, moderate carbonation, creamy texture.
