Tap at TG.
Aroma: dry roasty malts, chocolate, coffee, toast and biscuit.
Appearance: jet black, opaque, frothy tan head with good retention and decent lacing.
Taste: lots of dark roasty malts, cocoa and milk chocolate, coffee, medium bitterness and subdued hop character, toast, caramel, dry and clean finish.
Palate: medium body, soft-medium carbonation.
Overall: really great stout/porter-ish beer. I could easily drink liters of this stuff. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - FEB 19, 2013
Draft on tap at the brewpub (Decorah, IA). Pours a deep black opaque hue, dark and ominous for a 2nd runnings beer. Not glow on the edges, dark body, frothy milk chocolate head atop dies to a film and laces ok. Aromas are gentle roast, toast, gentle dryness, some mellow hops, and a gentle dark malt sweet/roasty blend. A touch of ash, dry dark roasty barley. Initial is firm medium bodied, still holds some girth as a second running beer. Roasty, cocoa, and biscuits. Some darker dark roasty malts, some caramel and biscuity malt elements. Gentle to mellow dry earthy hop elements. Gentle roastiness, dry earthy hops. Middle is a bit thicker, tarry roast. Backend provides that bitterness, firmly coats the palate. Really nice more bitter hoppy stout. Rich flavors for such a small beer (4.5!?). Bigger roast, toast, earth. Gentle hop earthy bitterness. Solid. Very much a stouty offering, mellow hops, richer bold flavors.
