650 mL bottle. Originally reviewed 6/6/2014. Mostly clear orange amber body. Medium white head. Medium collar. Grapefruit and orange hop aroma. Very tropical A little bit of musty pine. Caramel malts. Taste is orange and grapefruit, in that order. Tropical fruit juiciness in the middle. Hefty caramel malt presence, but not too sweet. Lightly toasty malts. Medium body. Medium carbonation. A little boozy? The technical execution is perfect, of course, but this doesn’t hold a candle to King Sue. I would call this a well-balanced DIPA.

Bright golden tangerine pour with a tightly packed ivory foam that left significant lacing inside the glass. Aggressive juicy citrus, orange peel, grapefruit pith, and lemon zest along with tropical fruit and evergreen. Assertive, balanced, delicious!

Bottle @ home, thanks to TheAlum for sending. Pours a slightly hazy, darkish orange appearance with a lasting, big cream colored head. Grapefruit, candy, tropical fruits in the nose along with some herbal / grassy notes. A touch goopy with some residual sugar but it isn’t overly sweet. A lot of grapefruit, peach, and apricots. Some pine. A little heat on the finish. Kind of a fun beer but I’d take a Pseudo Sue over this.

brokensail (16633) - Dublin, California, USA - JUL 5, 2014
Bottle @ RBSG 2014 Grand Tasting. Clear golden orange pour with a white head. A bit of sweet caramel on the nose, but plenty of pineapple, grapefruit, and pine. Nice tropical, mango character, too. A bit on the fruity sweet side, but quite nice. Tons of mango and pineapple, some peach as well. Grapefruit and pine bitterness, orange peel, and some hints of caramel and bready malt.

Bottle share at RBSG, sampled back to back with pseudoSue, cloudy golden pour, with a nice finger or two white head. Aroma is loaded with tropical fruits, pine, and some sticky malt sweetness. Taste is an explosion of tropical fruits up front, sweet malts, and finishes bitter with a lingering aftertaste. This was really good.
