This is in fact a perfect introduction to Belgian ales.
It is a relatively light and straightforward ale, with a clean and unmistakably Belgian taste and finish. (If there were off batches or bottling problems in the past, the defects did not creep into my glass.)
If you like the Belgian style, this would make a fine all-day Belgian ale.
Note - Staff at the brewery said the founder of this brewery is a chemist by training and profession, and he appears to be scrupulously following Belgian recipes.
The Belgians here appear true to what I recall from beer tasting in Belgium, and they are certainly closer than most of the Belgian ales from the upscale Brewery Vivant across the state. crossovert (12927) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 1, 2015
355ml bottle. These guys must have really changed their game looking at these reviews. This is not blowing me a way but if you like clovey banana-forward belgian styles this is your haven. wmubronco1992 (709) - Coldwater, Michigan, USA - NOV 15, 2014
Bottle. Cloudy cider color. Huge explosive off white head. Sour aroma. Sour flavor. Sour mouth feel. Couldn’t tell if this was infected or an attempt at a Belgian sour. Based on reading the other ratings which mention nothing about sourness I’m going to assume that I just got an infected beer. This isn’t the first infected beer I’ve ever run across, but the weird thing to me is that almost all the infected ones I’ve had have come from the east side of Michigan. Assuming that is just a coincidence, but its a strange coincidence. bytemesis (8384) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - APR 23, 2014
UPDATED: APR 24, 2014 bottle. Thanks Jim? Pours clear orange, small white head, some lacing. Aroma is corn, grain, cardboard. Flavor is medium sweet, nasty, fish guts, vegetal, cardboard. holy Yuk.

Pours a sharp golden yellow orange color, clear with white frothy head. Nose has banana, some vinous qualities. Light body, caramel notes, fruity sweetness. HonkeyBra (4044) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - AUG 30, 2013
12 oz. bottle. Pours a rich amber orangish color with an almost nonexistant head. Aroma of biscuity malt, fruity belgian yeast. Flavor is spicey, fruity, nice belgian yeast note, but a bit watery. Watery mouthfeel. Finishes on a floral and fruity note. This has potential. jgb9348 (6250) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - AUG 27, 2013
Slightly hazy amber and light copper coloured body with a ton of bubbles rising from the bottom, all with a nice one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of malt, cereal, bread, a touch of coriander seed and a bunch of yeast. Medium-bodied; Assertive lemon and sour notes up front - very interesting and unexpected with some latter flavours of malt and curacao and a hint of sweetness. Aftertaste shows a bunch more sour notes, a lot of lemons, curacao, coriander seed and a hint of malt - no hops at all here, but the sour notes remain until the very end - nice, interesting and not really a belgie to me, but interesting, for sure. Overall, worth trying if you like sours or want a light summer beer - this one fits that bill exclusively. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 02-August-2013 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 27-August-2013. Bottle. Hazy gold with almost no head. Clove and banana. Really sour in a bad way. fakebeersnob (325) - Salt Lake City, Utah, USA - JUN 23, 2013
Seemed to be a favorite out of people I know that hit this brewery. It starts off good, like a decent pale ale, but the aftertaste/mouth feel was unpleasant to me. Though I know this is not a smoked beer, that feeling reminded me of them. No one else seemed to get that sense though. Another I will try again, if I can find single bottle...but as is, ranking it on lower side of average for my liking.
