Bottle has appeared to me in my cellar. No idea how it came there, and why I did not open it when I got it. Pours clear blonde, with a HUGE white head filling about 80 % of the glass when poured very carefully. Smell is malty, sweet, very common and boring. Bit spice. Taste is sweet, bit bitter, refreshing spice over some hoppyness. Could fit well in the karmeliet-section of beers, and actually, it ain’t even a bad example for that style of tripel. Ok beer in general.

F: huge, average lasting, off-white. C: amber to copper. A: malt, orange peels, coriander, yeast. T: 0,75l bottle from Delhaize for 3,99e, now 7% ABV, malty, sweet coriander, hint of orange peels, grassy hops, caramel/toffee sweet, good beer may be because of decreased ABV, quite drinkable, hint of nuts, medium body, lively carbo.

Alengrin (5156) - BELGIUM - AUG 15, 2015
UPDATED: AUG 21, 2015 Bottle from Delhaize, which seems to be selling out the leftover stock of this beer, made for the French-speaking version of a television program about beer, after which this version (and the three other ones) is named. Medium sized, eggshell white, fairly stable head, colour an initially clear, warm orangey blonde with low amount of fizz. Aroma has a lot of sharp acetaldehyde, but otherwise indeed smells like a generic, sweet Belgian tripel. I get lots of sourdough, overripe peach, raw rhubarb, the obligate coriander of course and quite a lot of it, canned apricots, green apple peel, banana, cardboard, bubblegum, gooseberry, chamomille, biscuit, iron, white wine of dubious quality, gingerbread, clear ’jenever’ alcohol (a bad sign) and some paint- and varnish-like solvent. Sweet, fruity taste, bit estery, some minerally carbo, very bubblegum- and banana-like, sour berries, some not very pleasant sourish graininess evolving into a slick, smooth caramelly sweetness, bit biscuity, with yeasty spiciness as well as a somewhat astringent presence of alcohol, which becomes even a little bit burning in the end, next to a deep, earthy, leafy hop bitterness; a resiny, bittersweet, strong coriander taste remains, not too pleasant especially in combination with the already astringent alcohol. Below average tripel: too many chemicals in the nose which should not be there, at least not this obvious, ’overcoriandered’ and the alcohol is very badly hidden, to the point where it becomes wry, burning and obnoxious. Never again!

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A nice clear, yellow / orange colored beer with a firm layer of foam. It has quite a sour aroma of citrus fruits, but also something spicy on the background. The sour bit moves on into the taste, but it also brings some freshness along with it. On the back of the tongue it’s a bit bitter, and this remains in the aftertaste.
