2011 growler. Pours to a really deep brown body with a creamy deep tan head. The aroma is sweet chocolate with a bunch of sweet red wine and sherry. Delicious chocolate, wine, sweet chocolate syrup, sherry, port, and dry roasted malts. Growler thanks to DalzAle. Poured a deep dark black body with an average sized frothy beige head, really impressive for a growler shipped from 1,200 miles away and sat in a fridge for a few weeks. Aroma was woody, with something that walked the line between wine and bourbon, slight bandaid and vanilla. The flavor had hints of rubber, light chocolate, wine, wet wood, mud and charcoal. Growler. Poured inky black with a nice dark tan head. The aroma picked up burnt chocolate, star anise, and Port wine with undertones of oxidation and peppery alcohol.. some off-putting metallic stuff on the back of the nose.. OK. The flavor opened a little tart and metallic, and stayed there through the mouth.. heavily-roasted dark chocolate, licorice, and vinous notes at the core.. dark fruit skins and winey tartness extended outward, in a very good way.. finished with tart vinous notes, black pepper, and dry roast.. this grew on me. Medium-bodied with the expected low carbonation on the palate.. grainy and tart at times, but it held its balance.. solid stuff, with a giant Port impression. dark brown, thin tan head ring. Really heavy, really port influenced. Bit of dry malt in finish, stocky thin body. Bit hot and thin from port influence, but decent enough, could use more base beer.

Growler shared by Dmac, thanks dude. Pours out a moderately reddish hued brown color with a small white head that fades every second after the pour. Aroma is of odd boozy notes, Cabernet, and some vanilla. Taste is of some slightly wine-like notes, wood, roast, light chocolate. Interesting.... This poured a medium to darker brown color with a tiny beige head. Aroma was lots and lots of vienous port notes, some grape skins, and lots of chocolate, I believe from both the porter and the port. Flavor is deep dark chocolate clashing with lightly sourish vineous wine character. UPDATED: MAY 29, 2011 Had this at the RB Pgh tasting at lithy’s place 5/21/11. Big thanks to Dan beerman6686 for this growler. Pour isbig and black. Volatile aroma with a hint of vanilla olfactory. Alarmingly high alky first taste impressions, way to much for my girlie lager lovin taste buds. Comes across much more than the 8% listed here. Big thick dark alky bitter chocolate flavors. Some co2 but what exists is covered by the bold flavor profiles. Oily & mouth coating, reminds me of old shovelhead 60W. Borders on impy stout territory fer sure. Boldly on style. Winterfest ’11. Strong port aroma before the glass is even at my nose. More port in the flavor along with red wine, malt. There is a light sourness, and a dry, grape skin finish.
