Bottle acquired via trade shared at Campground Brewdown. Poured an orange amber body with a full large foamy off white head. Aroma of wooden barrel, light whiskey/bourbon, sweet vanilla, cognac, toffee and molasses. Fuller body with slight heat towards the end, softer carbonation, chewy mouthfeel and a dry finish. Flavor isn’t quite as good as the aroma with notes of grains, citrus rind, wood, whiskey and dark rum cake. Started off good but drops off. In short: A boozy, uber-sweet and woody amber ale. A few sips, no more.burg326 (5607) - Florida, USA - JUN 11, 2012
How: Bottle shared at Camping Brewdown 2012.
The look: Cloudy dark amber body topped by a very small off-white head leaving lots of lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is stale, muted sweet-related esters and a smell of a hard-liquor of some kind (not specifically bourbon). Taste is upfront very sweet, rather boozy too, grainy, candies, a shot of woody hard-liquor, muted tired hops. I know bourbon barrel aging an IPA was a bad idea but because this is a Town Hall beer I was hoping I could be pleasantly surprised, I wasn’t. The original IIPA is gone and we are left with a brutal sweet boozy malt beverage of some kind. This was very hard to drink, I can’t imagine myself going through a full bottle of this. Aging an IPA in barrels is just a bad idea, people who like that kind of beers are probably the same weirdos who open an egg carton and take an egg from the middle, really, what kind of sick freak does that?
750ml bottle from Alpar, shared it at Markwise’s Bday bash, poured a nice orange color, aromas of oak, vanilla, bourbon, pine, and some hops. Flavors are the same was on the fence on how this one woud play out, but nice beer overall. Thanks Alex for the trade. markwise (5450) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - JUN 13, 2012
Thanks to burg326 for the share on this one. Thanks, Adam! Pours a hazy yellow-orange with a white head. Nose is caramel, vanilla, wood, bourbon, and piney hops. Flavor is similar with a nose dose of malt from the IPA, a nice vanilla/ wood infusion from the barrel, and some pine hops from the IPA-ness again. Interesting barrel beer. Nose is a ton of pine and maltiness with some cherry and fruit roll up to it. Taste is very sweet with some alcohol warming. All make focused at this point with just some bitterness hops.

Thanks to drabmuh for this one. Served in a Town Hall anniversary tulip. Pours a moderate caramel color with a short head. Nose has whiskey and some barley wine character. Light caramel and moderate bitterness. Dry. Touch of booze. OleR (4849) - Oslo, NORWAY - OCT 3, 2012
Sampled from 0.75 L bottle @Papsoe’s. Hazy orangey gold. Low blond head. Initial aroma is boozy and yeasty, offset by some fine fruit and caramel notes. Hot and creamy in the mouth. Sweet-flavored and caramelly, with strong barrel notes and potent fruity bitterness underneath. Not very IPA-ish, yet a very nice and tasty beverage. I have growling and strong aversion to spirit barrel aged beers but confusingly have something of an affinity for some barrel aged IPAs, which look to be the worst idea in the world on paper. This one is orange and cloudy w/ a mixed-bubbled head that leaves behind a bit of lace. It is creamy but nopt too terribly sweet. It has mild carbonation and a nice oaken vanilla character. It is maybe a little bit hot and finishes w/ some lingering sweetness. The combination of hops and barrel aging always reminds me somewhat of oranges and cream and that is pretty tasty to me. This one isn’t the best of the style but it does pretty well for itself. drewbeerme (3921) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUN 24, 2012
Bottle. Pours amber white head. Nose is loaded with vanilla, sweet toffee, citrus. Flavors vanilla, maple, grapefruit. Bit boozy and sweet, hops are faded, it sorta works. jcartamdg (3535) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 9, 2012
Pours a golden caramel with a paperthin head. Aroma of strong bourbon and oak. Taste follows, very hoppy, very tasty. My favorite of the lot!
