Pours thick black with deep tan head, smell is roasted malt with coffee and chocolate. Taste upfront is coffee and bitter chocolate, really creamy mouth feel from the oatmeal, and ends nicely with smooth roasted/smoky malts. Excellent beer! kramer (6905) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 24, 2009
On tap, at brewpub. Flat black pour with a creamy brown head that had decent retention. The nose is big coffee and oatmeal with dark chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is nicely bitter and roasty with the coffee coming out on the finish. Very smooth and drinkable. Dries out on the finish nicely. Smooth and creamy mouth feel with just a touch of fizziness. Very nice beer. jcwattsrugger (12525) - Florida and, New Jersey, USA - DEC 12, 2009

growler shared by godofthunder. Nice roasted malt aroma with hints of coffee and chocolate. Pours dark brown black with a thin tan head. Smooth dark flavors, roasted malts, bitter chocolate, hints of coffee and vanilla. Very smooth. Nice. joechristenson (149) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - NOV 10, 2009
Beautiful, almost black color, but there is certainly a brown hue. Toasted oat aroma. Coffee flavored -- like a strong dark roast bean prepared in a French Press. I tasted some chocolate as well. Nice "warm" feeling on the palate.

On tap, poured into Pint Glass.
Black and opaque. Virtually no head or lacing, even when I try to shake it up. Looks thin.
Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, licorice.
Roasty sweetness, nutty flavor, slight bitterness at end.
Slick feel, low carbonation. Medium bodied but a little thinner than hoped for.
Decent stout overall, but there are many others I would rather choose.

Pours a dark brown-black with long-lasting foamy tan head. Aroma is roasted grains, molasses, and a touch of toffee. Flavor is roasted grains/coffee, molasses, a hint of chocolate and a hint of raisin that works well. Searched in vein for the vanilla notes alluded to in the description and never found them. Palate is weirdly thin and tingly, not what I would have expected from this style, but that wasn’t enough to detract from the overall experience.
pint at brewery - Aroma is roasted chocolate malts and oats with a smokey coffee finish. Flavor matches. Palate is creamy and ashy. I like the smokey finish on this tasty brew easy drinking brew. kidmartinek (5007) - austin, Texas, USA - AUG 30, 2009
Opaque 95% black color. Runny, deep tan colored head. Toasty, almost burnt, barley malt aroma. Sweet, chocolately, creamy, stout flavor. Creamy, and smooth, but not too thick, so as to weigh one down too much. Warms, a little bit from the inside out, even at only 6.2%. Lagunitasfan (1323) - San Diego, California, USA - AUG 7, 2009
Got a taster of this at the DDG release party. Dark dark brown with tan head. Cocoa, roasted malt, and coffee on the nose. Taste is same. Smooth. Thanks BMan for sharing.
