COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our strongest, darkest and most heavy regular offering. It is virtually black in color and features rich roasted malt flavor with a delicate caramel and vanilla finish. It is carbonated and served with the use of nitrogen gas, giving the Black Water a beautiful cascading pour and thick, creamy foam atop your glass. Made with only the freshest American malts and English hops.

Draft at the brewpub. Aroma: Nice roasted malt aroma with notes of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and light smoke. Some deep caramel and sticky oatmeal as it warms. Appearance: Black in color with a medium khaki head. Head was full and creamy with great retention. Good lacing. Flavor: Roasted malt with notes of coffee, smoke, oats, chocolate, toasted nuts, and light vanilla. Nice malt sweetness throughout, but finishes medium-dry with some roast flavors carrying over. Palate: Medium-full bodied and creamy. Moderate carbonation. Overall: I would have consumed this all day if I could have. Great session-able stout.

Nitro tap at the brewery. Chocolate mousse, vanilla, a hint of bourbon and a lot of black roasted malt make the aroma very nice on this one. I know it isn’t bourbon barrel aged, but I pick up that tiny hint in there somewhere. Dark black in color with a slight amber-brown color around the edges and a thin, creamy nitro head. Coffee in the flavor, roasted coffee with some molasses and sweet chocolate cake that is balanced by a small level of black, malt bitterness in the finish. Medium body, slightly dry while remaining almost sweet.

Pours dark black with almost no head. Nice roasty aroma as well as a a hint of mocha. Nice balanced flavor with a good punch of malt to offset the slight smokiness.

On tap at Town Hall. Pours a very dark brown with light passing as crimson when backlit. Aroma is mild and sweet chocolate malt, caramel and oak. Flavor is same with slight off flavor I’ve tasted in home brews. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel, bittersweet finish.

On tap at the brewpub.
Pours a dark brown-black with long-lasting foamy tan head. Aroma is roasted grains, molasses, and a touch of toffee. Flavor is roasted grains/coffee, molasses, a hint of chocolate and a hint of raisin that works well. Searched in vein for the vanilla notes alluded to in the description and never found them. Palate is weirdly thin and tingly, not what I would have expected from this style, but that wasn’t enough to detract from the overall experience.

Part of the house sampler! This one of my favorites of the evening. Simple and smooth! Lots of oatmeal and smoothness.

This was a decent beer and I would drink it again, I do enjoy Oatmeal Stout, however, this one did nothing to make me go wow. The smell started me off nice but the taste was not as impressive. There is the taste of roasted grains and caramel. This beer is filling and enjoyable, but don’t expect to be swept off of your feet.

A very roasty and complex sample pour at Town Hall. Really rich with biscuity sweetness, very dry finish, and some nutty/toffee/roasty flavors in there as well. Must get in MN!
