Growler from a friend recently at the brewery. This one wasn’t my cup of tea. Pours black, opaque with small head. Carbonation is still there. Aroma is intense and gives way to the roastiness and sweetness of this monster. Flavor is dominated by sucralose, roasted notes and whiskey. I think the sucralose thing is really getting to me. Some background tamari notes as well. Full bodied. Not a favorite for me.

32 ounce growler. Pours black with a decent tan head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, and bourbon. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, bourbon, dark fruit, and some coffee. Nice.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with medium beige head that lasts. The aroma is roast, wood, chocolate, ash. Medium body, roasted malt, dark chocolate, smoke, wood, light booze finish, very good.

VIntage 2013. Keg @ Town Hall. Deep brown pour with a creamy tan head. Nose is pretty well rounded, inviting. Dark chocolate. Mellow coffee. A bit of shag tobacco and old leather. Light vanilla. Earthy char. Mild signs of barrel aging. Flavor is sweet with a warm finish. Nice and chewy. Burnt brown sugar. Toasty malt. Dark chocolate. Full and rich, oily on the palate. Light woody heat on the finish. A sipper, but still pretty elegant. Nice.

Bottle: Vintage 2012: Served in a Chouffe glass: Creamy brown head. Black body. Aroma is very vinous with loads of wood. Also some metallic, roast, berry and a hint of alcoholic chocolate. Flavour is again very vinous, some roast, berries, hint of bourbon, some mocha, again lot of wood and some raisin. Aftertaste is bitter, mocha, bourbon, some praline and berries... Low carbo, creamy soft mouthfeel, between medium and full bodied. Seems to have some ties with wild/sour ale, possibly a light infection, still drinks fine, even a bit "refreshing".

Tap at Town Hall Tap. Black with a thin light brown ring. Molasses, oaky, light roasted coffee, a little raisins and earthy. Taste is complex, mild raisin sweetness with a woody dryness before finishing lightly bitter. Body is heavier with a milky feel.

Sample at brewery. Minneapolis. Pours dark brown with tan head Aroma is dark chocolate, coffee, a little bit of whiskey, roasted malts. Taste is dark chocolate bitterness. Body is medium, soft carbonation, long finish. Generally good, but the body is a little thin. Barrel did not come through as much as I would have liked.

Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a chestnut brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is full of roasted malts and dark grain with a bit of sweetness from the bourbon and a hint of smoke. Flavor has lots of roasted malts and a bit of smoke up front with bourbon and dark grains growing throughout the beer.

Tap at Town Hall. Pours dark black with foamy tan head. Aroma is strong alcohol and malts. Taste follows, too much wiskey flavor for my liking but a really solid stout.

On tap at GTMW 2014, back to back barreled aged beers at this festival, nice. Pours a very dark brown pretty much black with a thick brown head, the aroma was of heavy bourbon and oak at first with a nice amount of oak and vanilla showing too, the flavor has a heavy chocolate front end with the bourbon and vanilla showing quite a bit in the finish, big beer but still pretty good, not overly sweet.
