Pours a hazy amber/peach color, with a couple inches of thick clumpy white foam. The pint was still cascading a bit when served. Thin lacing, but still you can count the rings. Fresh shaved ginger is prominent in the aroma, throw in a little bit of spice as well.
The taste is not quite bold, but definately not mild. Again, the fresh ginger dominates. But there is also some honeyed malt flavors, a hint of citrus, and then some dry spice. A nice blend of flavor. All in all, pretty tasty and exceptionally smooth. Behind the cask smoothness, the beer was actually on the lighter side.

On-tap at the brewpub: Bright and clear yellowy-orange color with a slippery foamed small off-white cap that keeps a thin collar at the top once the head floats off. Lacing in a moderate placement of spots and strings.
Aroma is a perfume of ginger, orange, and sweet candyish malt.
Flavors are spicy and lingering of orange peel zest, ginger, corriander, and nutskins while a boostful sweet candied apple and watermelon render in the back; lying low til a very late finishing return once the spice fades. A pleasing little spiced brew with a candied melon fruity malt backing thats tamefully juicy.
Feel is below a mediumness with a fairly quick zip to it, yet carries a bit of thinner wateryness to it. Not one of the better drinkers at TH but a nice treat to perhaps enjoy as an after dinner drink. robertsreality (2460) - Minnesota, USA - DEC 30, 2004

Huge head of rich, dense, white foam drawing a clear line on the slow moving golden-amber body. Beautiful spice aroma, pot pourrie of ginger, clove, cinnamon, with orange. Nice cask palate (I had the cask version rather than the regular, though both were offered simultaneously), smooth, good temperature. Really nicely done spiced beer, extremely drinkable. Pint at the brewpub. Clear medium amber with a decent head and light bubbling action...sweet, spicy nose with touches of banana and cinnamon, bit of ginger late...body is dry, somewhat watery, cardboardy near the end, with a little orange giving it life...basically, just ok and a disappointment after all the great winter seasonals I’ve had of late. At brewpub on 12/23/2004 on cask - Happy Festivus! Appearance is a hazy orange color with a small creamy head and decending bubbles. The aroma is spicy and fruity. The flavor strikes me as an almost apricot flavor with some winter spice. The body is pretty nice. Overall, this is pretty good and a unique winter seasonal. Dishwater aroma with hops and saffron. Spicey, unique. Clear amber in color with very faint visible carbonation. Little head and not much lace. Unique flavor characteristics. Saffron. Not sweet enough. Dry hop profile with spices. Cookie finish. Good but a little dry. Would be better if it was sweeter. On Cask: I liked this much better on cask. The body was ramped up and the metallic elements were smoothed out. Though I prefer a darker, maltier holiday brew such as Anchor’s Our Special Ale, this is a valiant first effort.
If you weren’t sure what to make of it before, try it on cask.
