poured a nice dark black color, lots of thick foamy head about 3 fingers deep filled in my glass. has good fluidity, not thick like motor oil.
smells like chocolate pudding with hints of coffee. smells of grain malts. no alcohol smell whatsoever.
taste: this stuff is so chocolaty, and its a good, smooth, creamy chocolate the way I like it. I think they did the coffee in this perfect. too many places overdo the coffee, this stuff is just right where it is a subtle flavor that is balanced. its not overdone coffee where your looking for the other flavors. nice maltiness and some nuttiness around the edges.
mouthfeel as I said is very creamy but I felt it was a little on the thin side, but that is kind of expected with this easily drinkable 5% ABV brew. they can’t all be motor oil alcohol bombs.
I might have to get another growler of this, My wife and brother helped me make it dissapear in no time and asking for more.
I could easily drink this with vanilla ice cream because it is so creamy and chocolatey. shortbreads or poundcakes would go great with this. a bowl of raspberries or some tiramasu, thats where i would go with this guy.
edit: yup, I ended up buying 3 more growlers of it. I can’t get enough.

Drank a growler of this by myself one night...that was fun. Poured into a goblet, perhaps not the best for the style, but sure looked pretty, and really helped the nose. Pours black, diminishing head, not a ton of lacing. Huge coffee and chocolate on the nose and taste. This beer was super smooth...just on the verge of syrupy, but did not detract from the experiance. I was full (and more than slightly buzzed) after finishing it, but overall, very, very drinkable. Hope they do it again this year. bluemooner (657) - East Bethel, Minnesota, USA - JAN 16, 2010
Pours black with a thin tan head. Strong aroma of coffee and dark chocolate. Taste is very much coffee and dark chocolate with roasted malts, caramel, and toffee. Full bodied and low carbonation. Amazing. StefanSD (2451) - Ouray, Colorado, USA - JAN 14, 2010
From a growler, courtesy of Armin, shared with Tim for his 500th rating. Black pour with a small tan head. The aroma was coffee and more coffee (its a good thing that I like coffee). The taste was semi-sweet black coffee with a bit of vanilla and some leather. The mouthfeel was light, but silky smooth, the carbonation was soft. The finish was long with dry earthy notes. Overall: One of the most sessionable stouts that I can recall in a long time, this went down fast and left me wanting more. Goood brew. Lagunitasfan (1323) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 11, 2010
Rating number 500 thanks to Stefanje. Rating number 7 of this brew. From a growler Stefanje recieved in a trade. Smells like my grandpa’s percolated coffee. Not malty, or stout, just straight up cold percolated coffee. The smallest hint of cocoa. Taste is sweeter than the nose. Not overly think in the mouth. It actually has a light, rather silky mouthfeel, but not a light taste. High sweetness. Very drinkable. This is something I would have two pints of in a pub. Cheers.

Holy crap. amazing chocolate and Coffee. Flavor wise definitely the best addition of either I’ve seen. Chocolate more prominent than coffee. Finish is just slightly astrigent. badgerben (5171) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - DEC 31, 2009
Dark brown color with a medium head. Massive coffee aroma. A little chocolate and roasted malt poking through. My god does this taste like a freaking mocha. Rich, dark chocolate flavor with bombastic coffee. Some roasty malts as well. Thick body. For the coffee lover! arminjewell (9635) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - DEC 30, 2009
Pours deep black with slight tan head, aroma is a coffee and chocolate blend. Taste is full of rich coffee and chocolate that ends really sweet with an almost milk like mouthfeel. Great beer. bp (922) - New York, New York, USA - DEC 27, 2009
draft: dark black, frothy tan head, chocolate and coffee aroma, tastes sweet with coffee and chocolate notes, fairly full bodied, really nice brew BVery (10485) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - DEC 24, 2009
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2013 Tap at Town Hall. Nice dark pour, big aroma of dark chocolate and coffee. Medium to medium-thin body, maybe too carbonated. Awesome mocha flavor, just tremendous.
