Growler pour, big thanks to Caleb. Dark reddish brown pour with white head, aroma has notes of caramel, toffee, some wet cardboard/sour grain notes, touch of dry rice, with some almost dusty qualities. Taste is nice sweet mix of rice, caramel, some slight cardboard, but overall very balanced. Good, but not great. chibuck (3513) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 30, 2011
Thanks to Mike for deciding after NOTLA it was a good idea to open this and Port Odin. Drank from some glass, spilled multiple times on Mike’s carpet... A clearish brown, hints of amber. An off white head, ok retention and lacing... The aroma is ok nothing special but a bit unique. A brown ale backbone with some dark fruits, oak, and whiskey... The taste is more of the same of the nose, some sour notes which are interesting, but also shows off vinous... I was pretty hammered and I thought there was to much alcohol and after a few sips not too enjoyable. This is a rare MTH miss. Damico (3147) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 19, 2011
You can definitely smell maple syrup and whiskey in the nose. It pours dark amber brown out of the growler with a decent off white head. The flavor is malty whisky, not really too sweet, but interesting with some bitters on the end of the palate, litter a bitter soda. daknole (11049) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - MAR 15, 2011
Odd beer. Caramel color. Maple syrup, brown rice, odd chemical note. Flavor is sweet, maple, rice, plastic. Odd. Damn odd.

Tap. Hazy brown in color with a a small white ring around the glass. Maple present in the aroma. Slight tartness present in the aroma! Taste is maple, toffee, and caramel. Taste is slightly sour, which actually is quite nice with beer. Finish is sweet toffee, slightly roasty, and dry. Medium in bodied. I went into this thinking this beer would be overly sweet, but it ended up being my surprise favorite of the entire week. kbutler1 (1381) - North Carolina, USA - FEB 25, 2011
Draft. Poured into a 10oz tulip glass a clear, dark mahogany color with a slight tan head that collars around the glass. My first impression on smelling his is that it has a tinge of sourness to it, in a good way! Caramel, brown sugar, slight oak, and green apple as well. Oddly enough i get a pepper note as well. Medium mouthfeel. Slight sweet start with apple and caramel with a touch of booze flavors. The mild sourness in the aroma also comes through in the flavor as well. An interesting beer. Lingering ever so slight sour and Jim notes. As it warms the Jim Beam comes out a little stronger. No lace on this one.
