Dark ruby amber with notes of tangerine and grapefruit. Palate is light honey/ cane sugar without too much stickiness. Baby hopped, but at the right level (willamette hops?) Lots of malty and sweet aroma from this dark red ale. Lots of body with just a touch of bitterness. Mainly a malt flavor vehicle. I’m pretty sure I could taste some chocolate malts in there. szkot (100) - Minnesota, USA - NOV 17, 2004
Pours a dark red amber. Smells of dark fruit, like black raspberries. Taste is extremely malty, very little bitterness. A good beer.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2008 Rather dark and somewhat lifeless looking. Aroma is of darker malt. The flavor had that Scotch Ale all malt profile, but the palate came off a bit watery. Overall, fair. Update 9/6/2008: On cask as "Scotch Ale", pint dark colored with cask descending micro bubbles and a malty aroma. Holy crap, this has improved in the past few years, pint was almosty ambiant temperature, sweet, malty, slightly roasty, and rich. Much improved, will have again. Sample at the brewpub. Nearly opaque, extremely dark brownish-red, like dried blood; lasting bit of cream on top. Nose a bit weak; deliciously sweet at first, some middle herbal-bready (tarragon-rye) notes, rather simple overall and sticky near the finish. Just OK.
