Sampled during RBWG 2011 thanks to torino from backlog notes. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small tan head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, caramel, dark fruit, port, vinous notes, oak, light cocoa, molasses, some roast, fairly rich, enjoyable.

Growler shared by 321Jeff. Thanks man! The beer appears a deep dark brown shade, nearing blackness. A small mocha head rests on top, leaving nary a trace of its existence on the sides of the glass. The aroma brings chocolate, roast, wine (port), barrels. The flavor is rich and full, with a very prominent showing from the port barrels. Vanilla flavors emerge as the beer warms a bit. Alcohol presence is there throughout, but not overpowering. Overall, a tasty brew. Im glad I got to try it and would definitely have it again. Serving type: growler Reviewed on: 07-11-2011

Growler. Poured deep brown with a short-lived, but rich dark tan head. The aroma was driven by rich, sweet Port wine, with burnt chocolates, figs, and vanilla beans deeper down.. small amounts of oxidation and peppery alcohol accented.. nice barrel presence, but the underlying beer didnt seem to be that interesting. The flavor found slightly syrupy black patent, cocoa, and vanilla at the core.. black pepper, tangy oak, and rich vinous notes laced throughout.. dry finish with more Port over cocoa.. tasty stuff. Medium-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. felt alright, but probably felt better when it was on tap 5 months ago. Id gladly drink it again (which is good, because theres about a L left in the fridge).

Thanks to a generous BA whose name I didnt jot down for opening a growler of this at the Rosso release. Served in a SAVOR snifter. Pours near black with a slight tan head that sits around for a bit before falling. The nose brings forward a nice amount of port plus some roast, oak, and a bit of chocolate. The flavor is a bit of a disappointment after the nose, and knowing how good the base beer is for this. The port mixes with chocolate, roast, and oak, but everything seems a bit muted and I wish something would take the lead. Body is medium with a good, full finish. Overall, quite nice, but not as good as their other BA stouts. Serving type: growler Reviewed on: 04-20-2011

Growler at the release of batch 3 Rosso down at Captain Lawrence. Pours a deep black with a thin tan head. Wood, sweet vinous port notes, roast and chocolate. Sweet and full of chocolate, smooth roast and light dry wood. Very smooth and full of cocoa. Sweet dark fruit notes on the finish. Very nice stuff.
