Light brown, a little cloudy. Some citrus aroma. I couldn't find a smoked aroma or taste. Kind of thin, and not much taste. badgerben (5372) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - AUG 20, 2004
Pours a very cloudy yellow with a medium head that melts away in a few minutes. Aroma is pretty standard for a hefe: wheat and citrus. It his kind of a dusty hint at first... the smoke? The taste is an odd mix. The wheat and lemon are definitely there, but the smoke seemed to take the form of Saaz hops from a pils. It wasn’t smoke so much as it was dust. Also has a kind of bitter and tart hit on the palate. There are quite a few things going on with this beer and I’m not sure how many of them are good. It’s interesting, but not near the top of my list. robertsreality (2460) - Minnesota, USA - AUG 20, 2004
Hazy Honey Coloring. Good Head. Fruit and Wheat Aroma. Tasted Like a Hefe With Decent Amounts of Citrus and Wheat. Also a smokey flavor imbedded throughout. I’m new to smoked beers, but don’t think I care for it. Definitly Distinctive and Worth Trying but not perhaps a Favored Beer. ElGaucho (2401) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - OCT 1, 2003
Clearly banana aroma, with some wheat. Murky, cloudy, milk-yellow. Small head. Doesnt' have the orange hue most hefe's have. A burst of flavor. Tart and carbonated with Belgian white notes. Pretty good overall, though overly carbonated. Good flavor and enjoyable. Pigfoot (2268) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - APR 13, 2004
On my first stab at this unique and wonderful ale, I gulped too quick and totally missed the smoke character. "What-a-weizen?" Lesson learned, that concentration is key!
A cloudy yellow color, with a tight, yet fluffy white collar of foam.
Aroma, mellow and citric, not yet giving off the smoke factor.
Down the lips, smoooth, yet tantalizingly tasty and hearty, too. Then the smoke effect becomes discernible, asserts itself and shines on the palate, slowly, but surely rising to prominence on the flavor profile. Curls up in the mouth, the teeth, the gums, gets all up in there. Goes down very smooth, with a full and invigorating flavor.
Smoke is subtle, but lingers on the palate and never quite leaves. Not the first time I was surprised by a Town Hall brew, and destined to not be the last.

MABR-Wheaty smoky aroma with the flavor being much the same with a nice smoked after taste that doesn't get to harsh but is very light. This was a very good brew i just wished i lived in minneapolis again so i could enjoy more of this brewery's fine brews. Cloudy light aroma. Wheat plus smoked fish aroma, has orangey notes as well. Slightly soapy, charcoaly flavor. Clove notes, too. OK. beermatrix (1497) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - SEP 20, 2003
Whitish shade of a cloudy yellow, very strange lookin' color, with a puffy white head that fades to a small skim and lots of thin patchy lace thats drippy. Smell has a great yeasty grab right of the bat with the smokey senses of smoked bacon and has a frothy easy malt backing and sweetish wheat with some banana and lemon notes and very light clove. Taste has lightly sour lemon-like tendencies, the smokey sense is there but in a subdued mix in with some of the airy light malts and wheat sweetness, some banana floats around, touch of clove and spice. Clean, fresh, slightly sharp, nearly full bodied with a wheaty light texture in its feel, quite lively and refreshing. One of my favorites that I kept going back for during the Autumn Brew Review to help beat the heat. Good stuff, very drinkable and easy going, soothing hefe. Smoked hefeweizen? What? Medium hued and slightly dirty orange yellow cloudy body. Creamy white ring of head around the glass. Charcoal-hefeweizen aroma. Fizzy palate. Smokiness adds an unpleasant stale smokey component. Ringo (963) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - OCT 8, 2002
A smoked Hefe from Minnesnowta. Very, very good! Reminds me of the Schlenkerla smoked wheat, and that is high praise indeed. I wish there was a brewpub near me serving a smoked hefe.
