On tap at the brewpub. A dark but clear brown color with a one-finger tan head and good head retention. The aroma has good quality coffee that is rather prominent, along with roasted malts and dark chocolate. On the flavor, I really can’t get past "cold coffee." Good coffee flavor but not enough beer to back it up. Just a slight roasty/chocolatey note. Medium-bodied with slight coffee astringency and average carbonation. A decent but somewhat flawed beer. To be fair, if I hadn’t just brewed a coffee stout that had the same issue with it (that wasn’t as good as this), I’d probably like it more. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - FEB 23, 2011
Sampled on tap at the brewpub (Minneapolis, MN). Pours a nice darker brownish hue with some golden amber edges, with a frothy offwhite near tannish head. Aromas are a nice fairly intense blast of coffee beans, some roasty malts, brown, toffee, vanilla. Nice essence here. Initial is medium bodied with a healthy coffee grounds taste, roast and toast, a touch of cocoa, but largely coffee and brown malts linger. A lighter beer packing some coffee essence, some pretzels and pretzel bread. A solid porter, more of a coffee infused brown ale in my opinion. Tasty, cold coffee and sweetness of caramel and touches of dry roast into the finish. A beer that might see raters either loving it or hating it.. Drunk at TC Java Porter at Town Hall. Pours a deep brown, slightly turbid. Tan head. Nose is roasty with slightly faded coffee notes. Firm cocoa note as well. On taste, fair amount of bitterness with a light coffee and cocoa being the dominant character rather than hop flavor. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. Not a bad beer, just lacking character it seems. kbutler1 (1381) - North Carolina, USA - JAN 31, 2011
Draft. Poured into a nice pint glass a dark brown/black color with a a darker tan thick tan head. Nice aroma of dark roast coffee and chocolate. Nice subtle and smooth coffee flavors with a nice medium mouthfeel. Slight leather flavors. Not overly bitter. A really nice coffee beer. Nice lace. Essentially, this is the same beer as Parkway Java Porter they make for Town Hall Tap but I think they use different coffee.

Tap. Deep brown in color with a medium sized khaki head. Coffee and chocolate dominate the aroma. Taste is rather sweet. Coffee, chocolate, roasted malt blend together to taste something like cocoa pebbles. Slightly thin. Too sweet for me.

On tap 1-26-11. Very dark brown (verging on black) pour, with a tan lasting skim and good lacing. Aroma is chocolate covered espresso beans, with nice roasty notes and a bit of sweetness. Very nice nose. Taste is very layered, coffee up front, with nice roasty malts folowing. Fades to bitter malts and a touch of chocolate. Good coffee character without being overdone...more like a fine cup of coffee rather than the bitter coffee bombs a lot of people are making. Mouthfeel is very nice, though just a tad on the thin side. Fairly dry finish. A very enjoyable beer from TH.
