Growler from Town Hall (19/2/13)
Aroma of fudge, caramel, alcohol. Medium hazy-brown with an insignificant head. Not getting much in the way of barrel aromas, although some wood/whisky comes out in the finish. Taste is mostly sweet, with a warming boozy finish. This is like the beer equivalent of fudge. Not chocolate fudge though, but the grainy mostly-sugar fudge that nobody really likes. Evidently this fudge is considerably more enjoyable as a beer, as this is the best barleywine that I’ve had so far this season.
On tap at the brewery. Really nice BBA barleywine. Bourbon character comes through just enough, classic barleywine flavours with a subtle hoppiness. Impressive. jackl (8201) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - OCT 24, 2015
Keg @ Town Hall. Super soupy deep brown with a small head. Plenty of bourbon character on the nose. Rich caramel
And vanilla. Red apple skin. Granola and honey. Taste is rich and hot. Chewy caramel. Toasted grain. Boozy finish. A real supper. Full bodied. Solid. beastiefan2k (4007) - HdG (past: NYC, KS, Rain City), Maryland, USA - MAR 14, 2015
Cute growler, the alcohol punch is at first appealing but past that a ni Ely toasted, non astringent, warming light sweetness. Not a sweet or heavy beer. Just dial down the barrel a bit and I would love it. dfroms (477) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - MAR 14, 2015
Growler. Pours clear red amber, no head. Aroma is bourbon, honey, vanilla, flowers, faint plum, almond. Very syrupy. Taste is mild roast and boozy bourbon, hot volatile white alcohol, citrus peel, walnut skin, sugar syrup. Just okay. ChrisSc (464) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - FEB 23, 2015
Sample at brewery. Minneapolis.
Pours dark brown, slight hint of ruby, opaque. Small offwhite head.
Aroma is great - boozy bourbon, charred barrel, vanilla, chocolate, raisin, apricot, really complex.
Taste is slightly sweet with a slightly bitter undertone.
Body is full, soft carbonation, long finish.
My favorite from barrel aged week. Great complexity.

Pour on tap at the brewery, hazy dark red pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of big molasses, toffee, caramelized sugars into nice coconut, vanilla, bourbon and oak into a bit of spice, almost a dark fruit note with a touch of grass. Taste was a mix of nice vanilla, oak, dark fruit, coconut into some whiskey, toffee and molasses notes, slight booze, finishing fairly sweet, oaky. Nicely done. islay (2805) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - FEB 20, 2015
4 oz. pour, on tap at the brewpub in Minneapolis, Minnesota as part of Town Hall Barrel Aged Week. Consumed on 2-19-15. Pours an amber brown with beige to taupe head. Nice, medium brown shade. Hazy liquid. Leather-like appearance. Dry dustiness atop raspberry maltiness in aroma. Also a touch of clean diaper. Almost astringent taste features a chocolate element. Bourbon pecan pie; nutty. Excessively bitter but tasty anyway, although not as good as it could have been were it not overly bitter. Full body. Smooth and lively. Appealing palate effects. For me, not as good as advertised yet still an above average beer. deyholla (11705) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - FEB 20, 2015
On tap at the brewery. Pours a murky amber brown with a tan head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has notes of bourbon and caramel with some bread and toffee underlying. Flavor has caramel and toffee throughout supported by bourbon and some sweet grains. ElGaucho (2401) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - FEB 19, 2015
Draft at brewery during barrel aged week. Excellent aroma. The best of the 3 beer sampler I had along with Manhattan Reserve and Buffalo Bock. Excellent. Rich strong hoppy but hops are pushed to the back due to the barrel aging and booze. dnstone (3430) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - JAN 24, 2015
Deep copper color with an off-white head. Malty-boozy aroma. Boozy warming character (vanilla, caramel, woody) with a sticky sweet barleywine body.
