The head is good, the body blond. It smells malt-aromatic, bit fruity. The taste is less CO2, malt-aromatic, bit hoppy. Nice and easy going. 3.7 beer-yum (1654) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - NOV 16, 2013
Enjoyed hand pulled at the Hop Garden. Both refreshing and light - definitely look to have another as the summer progresses. Cantabrian (1114) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 7, 2013
UPDATED: JUL 25, 2014 New rating 25/7/14: I have a very different impression now - really aromatic (banana gum) a bit like a Weizen beer. Nicer flavour than before, with that Weizen banana gum and the hoppy bitterness. Nicer :)
Rated 5/7/13:Surely it is an ale as described by the brewer, but it does come across as a spetacular lager. It delivers the zesty hoppiness promissed on the lovely (delux version) label. Not much of a pleasant aroma, just the usual skunkiness of...pale lagers (again). The zest is basically bitter hops, not too much, but just on the citric side, icy and steely, hardly with any perfumed sweetness of some NZ pale ales. The finish is particularly nice and pleasant, with that icy bitterness spreading wide across the tongue and palate. The homage to the neighbours is precious! Very lager-like, thin and quenching. No sign of the chewy malt, token hop bitterness without any interesting hop flavours. More than a hint of banana, you might almost think this was made with a bit of wheat. Drinkable, sessionable even, but forgettable too. beerledgend (1196) - Waterloo, Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - OCT 29, 2012
On tap at The Brewhouse,Wellington.
Straw yellow colour with small creamy white head. Interesting aroma, initially I got Janola, then a hint of lemon came through. Chlorine flavours. Thin and blah!!!

Golden, light, with a fluffy head, but itís pleasant appearance doesnít mean it skimps on flavour. Itís full and malty, with a lovely tinge of bitterness up front and on the after taste. The perfect session beer; if only it were available at more sessionable prices! That said, itís the perfect sunny afternoon ale to relax into after work. Fluffy white head and slightly lighter colour than 18 carat gold. Pours light, perfumy and clear. Looks stunning. Slight diacetyl whiff, apples and grapiness. Not entirely sure what to make of it really because as it warms that suspect whiff subsides into pineapple lumps. I was a wee bit worried there.
Lemon citrus, resin, and carbonation to the fore. I would imagine that this would be best drunk on a warm day on a wharf, fishing in Tasman Bay. More golden mellow passionfruit flavours shine through with a tinge of bitterness. An excellent lager alternative and a good session beer. Vas (64) - NEW ZEALAND - FEB 4, 2011
Tasting at Regional Wines & Spirits. Not quite as advertised but still a good drop. I would describe it as straw coloured instead of golden - no mean achievement in itself. Big fluffy head. Some nice hop aroma of citrus and fruit. Taste was surpisingly bitter, but certainly no chewy malt. Decent body and reasonable mouthfeel. Light, quenchingly bitter (as they claim) and easy drinking. 500 ml bottle
Aroma: lightly fruity and yeasty;
Appearance: light yellow brown, hazy, big thick head dissipating to an egg nog topping, good lacing;
Taste: slightly bitter;
Palate: light bodied, thinly textured, softly carbonated with an mildly astringent finish;
Overall: not as advertised - not a chewy malt and zesty hop. Another 4%er and unremarkable. nate2g (1548) - Boomtown!, AUSTRALIA - FEB 22, 2010
Bottle. Appears clear golden once it settled with a large white head. Pleasant nose of nuts, orange, citrus and spicy/earthy notes. The flavour is nutty malt and fruit. Good carbonation and dry, bitter finish. Nice and enjoyable. Bottle courtesy of SorenE...cheers mate!
