$5.99 is a great deal. Unibroue is first class and this is made to their exacting standards. Spicy and slightly sweet with the head and body you would expect from a Belgium Strong Ale.

This was a first. On a hot night, I uncaged the bottle and, a couple of moments later the cork shot off with a loud bang! Served appropriately into a glass Belgian chalice, where it formed a fluffy, fizzing topper. The yeasty, soapy aroma sets it back some, but there is a fruity undertone that grows. Lightly nutty and finely balanced golden ale. Dashes of brett, candy sugar, and wheat. The more you concentrate on it, the better it tastes. I’m beginning to look forward to these annual Trader Joe’s Unibroue releases.

A major surprise! Accurate description on the bottle. Malty, hoppy, subtle spicy finish, mildly sweet. Reviewed - A Brew With You, Ep. 37

Refrigerated 75 cl brown bottle poured into a glass. Clear golden with small white head. Aroma is stone fruit, medium body, lower carbonation, and little lacing. Taste stone fruit.

Corked and caged 0.75 litre bottle: BBD 18th Feb 2018, drank in California while on holiday on 6th Feb 2017. Hazy, golden/orange pour, white head that didn’t hang around. Citrus like aroma and taste with an orange flavour lead, some mixed spices and a yeasty feel: semi-sweet in the mouth initially, slightly more hop bitter, in the finish.

$5.99 bomber from Trader Joe’s, Charlottesville. Game 7 half hour away... pouring this into my Indians pint glass. Pours hazy golden with a giant soft white head. Aroma is yeast, yeast, and more yeast. Some floral notes as well. Flavor is banana, floral and herbal notes, yeast, hints of candied orange.

Large bottle pours hazy golden with a big sticky white head. Aroma is Belgian, very herbal, cardamom and pepper, orange zest. Flavor is quite herbal, dry, yeasty, slight bitter. Medium bodied, crisp and effervescent. Decent.

Another quality TJ beer for the money. Pours a hazy blonde with small ring of head. Aroma of bananas, candy. Very carbonated, almost a champagne effect. Seemed hoppier than most Belgians. Dry finish.

Paid $5.99 for a 750 ml bottle with the best before 11-08-2017. Plenty of carbonation on a hazy golden straw colored ale. Aroma is orange zest, bananas hints, steady Belgian yeast.

The flavor reminds me of La Fin du Monde. Very, very similar to La Fin du Monde. The Brewers house yeast is obvious. Tons of fruit, candied fruit with a mild spice in the finish. Body is medium (perhaps leans on lighter). Nice effervescent mouth feel and dry texture. very nicely surprised by this.

2015 BJCP Category: 25C Belgian Golden Strong Ale

AROMA: Classic Belgian yeast esters dominate. Strong green pear and peppercorn scents with some orangepeel. 10/12

APPEARANCE: Rusty orange/light brown hue. Very hazy. Large white foam dissipates quickly, no lacing. 1/3

FLAVOR: Some banana up front with peppercorn throughout. Lemony flavor on the finish akin to Sprite/7Up. Fairly dry bitterness. 15/20

MOUTHFEEL: Spastic carbonation never settles down. Medium/full body; consistently crisp but not smooth. Alcohol warmth is noticeable but gentle. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Not as good as La Fin Du Monde, but better than Duvel as it’s fruitier and less arid. 8/10

TOTAL SCORE: 38/50
