COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Unique and limited edition, this Belgian style ale is crafted once a year as a special treat for those of you who appreciate flavorful, bottle-conditioned ale with character. This year’s vintage: a rich, dark and full-bodied ale with a fine and generous coffee-colored, beige foam. It’s ready to enjoy right away and you may also wish to cellar a few bottles. It will evolve interestingly well, developing more complex flavors as the years go by.

Bottle from TJs. Dark brown with a fluffy off white head. Huge musty and earthy aroma of spice, molasses, caramel, and chocolate. Bright lively palate. Tastes of dark fruit, berries, caramel, vanilla, and sweet spice.

Bottle. Dark mahogany beer with a light brown head. Yeast and caramel/toffee aroma with light fruitiness. Yeast and spice flavor with caramel/toffee. Medium bodied. Spice and yeast lingers with caramel/toffee and light fruitiness.

It’s cool that Trader Joe’s still does this. The best value in beer. Pours a nice rich brown color with thick creamy beige head. Aroma of spice, belgian yeasts, esters, coriander, caramel and chocolate notes. Flavor is spice dominated, with some strong ester notes and caramel and brown sugar. Full bodied, nice carbonation. Overall, finishes with a touch of booze and sweet belgian yeast and caramel notes. Solid from Trader Joe’s/ Unibroue.

$5! Come on! This is the best value in beer. Taste like a standard Dsrk Belgian ale, a little chalky and thin but great overall

Bottle; poured a dark cola brown with a huge tan head. Aroma of their yeast, dark fruit, herbs, spice, hint of caramel and booze. A bit flat in favor at first. Some sweetness, but largely dry. Caramel, yeast and dark fruit. As these beers go this year was a bit off.

Pours dark brown with a foamy tan head. Sweet, yeasty, spicy, fruity aroma. Sweet malty flavor. Dark dried fruits like prunes and raisins. Spicy yeasty finish. Really liked. Now I will have to look for this every year.

Very sweet, cola and cacao. Nutty, slight spiciness. Great price. Certainly a winner for the price.

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2015 Well, I don’t think I liked this as well as the previous year but the missus seemed to think it was just as good. I wish I’d had a bottle of the old to compare. Some basic deal at last year but didn’t come together as well for me. Serving: Bottle

750mL bottle, gift bottle Aaron (thanks brother!) shared with my father on Christmas Day. Pours the color of Dr. Pepper, big, foaming off-white head that took a few minutes to dissipate in order to drink so as to not get froth up the nose. Nice retention and lacing. Nose is festive, Belgiany yeasty spice, some pepper, caramel, light clove. Mouth is medium bodied, caramel, some dried fruit, yeasty funk, mild chocolate notes. I’m fighting a sinus thing, so this probably isn’t as thorough a description as it might’ve been, but from what I got, it was a decent holiday brew. A very Merry Christmas to all!

Pours deep mahogany into a snifter. Mocha head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Pit fruit and caramel aromas. Dry with chocolate and caramel upfront turning to pit fruit in the medium length finish.
