COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Unique and limited edition, this Belgian style ale is crafted once a year as a special treat for those of you who appreciate flavorful, bottle-conditioned ale with character. This year’s vintage: a rich, dark and full-bodied ale with a fine and generous coffee-colored, beige foam. It’s ready to enjoy right away and you may also wish to cellar a few bottles. It will evolve interestingly well, developing more complex flavors as the years go by.

Bottle. Pours a clear brown with decent head. Smooth mouth feel with the typical Belgian yeast esters giving a mild banana/fruit taste. A bit of spice. A pretty decent Belgian overall.

November 6, 2014 - with blankboy, gregclow, jercraigs and mabel - 750ml bottle. Very deep slightly hazy ruby with a large fluffy pancake batter beige head. Aroma of alcohol, apple seed, spice and moderately sweet candy apple malt (call it 7 just to be different). Taste follows but it works a bit better - classic spicy/yeasty Unibroue dark. Solid body, average carbonation, a little astringent from that appleseed bitterness and alcohol emerging in the linger. As always a solid drinker.

JaBier (7972) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - FEB 26, 2017
Bottle shared by a friend. Pours brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel and grape. Malty and caramelly flavor with an herbal character (sage-like) before a grape finish.

This might be the right time to open this up. Nice Belgian yeast and spices that make the holiday special. Dark but decident and lively.quite nice.

chinchill (5010) - South Carolina, USA - JAN 8, 2016
750 ml bottle with a Unibroue cork and cage seal served in a Sierra Nevada glass. Popping the cork produced a slowly rising foam that just barely extruded out the top of the bottle. Likewise, a very large head rises above the dark reddish brown body, even with a gentle pour. Excellent mouthfeel with a creamy smooth feel, but with a touch of astringency in the finish. The aroma is spicy, yeasty and, unfortunately, a bit musty. This musty note largely disappears upon tasting, where dark fruits and dark spices come to the fore.

Bottle shared by Miller. Thanks man. Dark brown body with a fizzy beige cap. Aromas of sweet Belgian yeast, lots of spice to ring in the holiday season. Alcohol, raisins, plums with pronounced spice and yeast character. Mild burn in the finish.

750ml corked and caged bottle. Old vintage at this point, very oxidized and forgettable.

Bottle. It poured a dark mahogany color with an off-white head. The aroma was of dark fruits and caramel. The taste was similar to the aroma with toffee and some plum. It was full-bodied and easy to drink.

Pours a dark caramel brown color with a tan head. Yeast, clove, malt, spice and dark fruit aroma. Yeast, banana, clove, spice, dark fruit and malt flavors. Medium full body and lively carbonation. Yeast and fruit finish.

750 ml thanks to Keir. Pours a very dark mahogany color, really looks black with a large light beige head, a bit of a slow gush. A spicy malty nose. Rich, toffee, berries, strawberry especially, yeasty of course, light wood. Comes in a bit hot maybe, slightly tart. Very good overall.
