This porter poured a deep amber colour with a soapy head. To the nose there are scents of brandy, rum, cocoa and caramel. First sip was thin and a little watery with flavours of coffee, brandy, caramel and roast. Finish is roasty with light flavours of brandy and a little smoke. Slightly bitter palate.

Nice looking ceramic swing top bottle, so thats probably 2$ right there. Poured an extremely pitch black colour and barely has any head, mostly large bubbles. Weak lacing. Mocha and malt aromas. A bit of caramel notes, nutty. Mild burnt smell, not offensive. Flavours of burnt roasted malts, wheats, mild cognac taste coming in the finish. Alcohol somewhat noticeable. Seems a bit watered down. More of an occasional type brew. Cognac becomes a bit more at the forefront when its a bit warmer. Not that great, just ok. 1/14/2013

The beer pours a coca-colour colour with absolutely no head despite a vigourous pour. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, wood, and some smoke. No cognac from what I can smell. Mouthfeel is very thin (quite watery actually) for a porter with medium carbonation. Flavour is roasted malt, wood, and some alcohol. Not a lot in the way of coffee, especially when it can be accounted for from an olfactory standpoint.

Rustic clay flip-top bottle shared with TylerDurden. Medium brown with amber highlights. Aroma is quite chocolatey, with toffee notes too. Exceedingly thin mouthfeel with just the faintest hint of any cognac flavour, evident only after allowing the beer to come up in temperature. Not foul, but very disappointing.

5% barrel aged the fuck? Interesting. Brown pour with an off white head. Aroma screams tootsie rolls more than anything Ive ever had. Some coffee, chocolate, and a bit of earthy bitterness. Flavor just doesnt work. Almost zero body on this. Light maple notes. Just too thin, a touch sweet.

Bottle from the LCBO. Pours an opaque black with a small amount of tan head that laces well. Smell is cognac, alcohol, and a bit of roastiness. Palate is on the lighter side of medium bodied with below average carbonation. Taste is slightly sweet at first, then doesnt really do anything, though gets a bit bitter in the aftertaste. Not bad, but just... theres nothing there.

Boutip (6208) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 28, 2013
Bottle: Poured a clear dark color porter with a large dirty white foamy head with average retention and minimal lacing. Aroma consists of light dry roasted malt with some light sweet notes and very subtle cognac notes. Taste is a mix between light dry roasted notes with light residual sugar notes and a vanilla and liquor. Body is indeed too thin for style with medium carbonation. Not as bad as expected but not as great either.

Dark red, light brown with little head retention. Coffee, chocolate, a little sour/dried fruit, some burnt sugar and a hint of spice. Medium light bodied with a short finish, thin and not terribly pleasant. Not really sure what the cognac barrel contributed, a mediocre beer with a hugely inflated price tag. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a snifter. Pours clear reddish chestnut with a small tan head that fades quickly to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of fine lace. On the nose, there are notes of oak, grapes, toffee and chocolate, with hints of vanilla and fruit. The flavour is dry with oaky, toasty malts and a touch of cocoa. The finish is long, dry and slightly bitter. On the palate, it is light in body with a dry texture and soft carbonation. Overall, I was a little disappointed with this one. The cognac is nice, but the body is too thin and plain for my taste. 2012-12-22

Very nice first notes, very flat second, but has a good finish. A bit pricey, but worth a try.

Thin porter it is. But, it still has some decent characteristics. Nice ceramic bottle with swing-top from the LCBO. Pours a clean dark brown, see-through, with red highlights. Frothy beige head with average retention and a little lace. Aromas of roasted malts, coffee, dark fruits, caramel, with hints of burnt wood and the cognac alcohol warmth. Wet thin mouthfeel and the taste seems watered-down. Some roasted burnt malts show up in the finish thankfully. Notes of dark fruits, hop bitterness, watery molasses and coffee. This could of been much better, had it had a stronger alcohol content (to have more punch in the mouth). Still, worth trying.
