2.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Wow this is quite an intense beer. Very strong aroma, strange bitter and sort of "bad" flavour, hard to explain the taste. Almost tastes burnt. An interesting beer, Iím not sure if Iím a very big fan but itís alright.
This review is of the 2014 edition. It pours with an ENORMOUS foamy head that simply canít be controlled, no matter how careful the pour, and that tests oneís patience in the slowness with which it settles down.
Strange aromas, with a blend of grass, vegetable oil, and mineral water. A chemical undertone permeates it all.
Tastes of pine needles, resiny hops, earthiness, with a sharp bitterness on the swallow.
This isnít an attractive looking, smelling, or tasting beer. After numerous bad experiences with this brewery, I will now routinely avoid Trafalgar products, as they just arenít to my tastes.

Scent of fresh cut grass, yeast, and light malt Ė slightly astringent odour. Huge head; clear straw colour. Bitter front with notes of green tea, caramel, and apple, as well as a sustained bitter finish. Medium body with high carbonation. Pretty good. HopsandBolts (258) - Ontario, CANADA - OCT 5, 2014
Appearance: Pours a cloudy straw colour with two fingers of white head.
Aroma: Bread and a very strong diacetyl buttery smell.
Flavour: Bread, hops, pine, diacetyl.
Mouthfeel: Smooth with minimal carbonation.
Overall: The hop component of the beer is good but the strong diacetyl smell and flavour throws things off. Iím not sure if this was a bad bottle or was indicative of the whole batch. OOKPIKABLE (193) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 25, 2014
Purchased at lcbo. A hoppy English pale ale. Does what it says on the tin. Ok but not great. Papillon (400) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 13, 2014
650 mL Bottle. Murky straw body with a fast dissipating head but leaving lots of clingy spotty lace. Intense aroma of resiny hops dominates over the pale sweet light malts, a note of grapefruit rind. The flavor is like a homebrew that needs to age just a bit more in cellar; tart with resiny citrus hops. A hop bitter aftertaste lingers in the finish.

batch. Brewed Aug 2013 . Bottled Sept 2013. On the shelf in Embrun, ON Jan 2014. Floral, yeasty, sweet aroma - lots of candy here. Hazy unfiltered yellow, foamy frothy head. Taste - really interesting wet harvest sort of taste - even months after. Musty, yeasty. Candy sweet , sharp bitterness, earthy, almost medicinal. Interesting hop(s) here - what did they use? Solid beer, stunned in it holding up so well. Nice work. Ferris (15027) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 13, 2013
Bottle - 2 months old - Lots of lemon and grass, almost sour like. Hazy yellow with a very active bubbly head. Grassy hop bitterness and lemon a bit on the acidic side. The more I drink the more the sharpness declines and this turns into a perfect hot weather beer. Unfortunately it is snowing outside. I also give credit to the brewer that clearly states, harvest date and bottling date. bunget (965) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 26, 2013
650ml bottle. 2013. Hazy golden body, medium white head with decent lacing. Aroma of citrus, pine, mango, sulphur, grains. Taste has a good dose of herbal bitter hops, sweet malty backbone, grassy, slightly spicy. Good try. tompete (331) - Tillsonburg, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 28, 2013
2013 ed. 650 ml bottle. Pours an opaque orange with a tiny white head. Aroma is citrus hop and something sulfur. Flavour is citrus hoppy and really simple. Body is very watery. Finish is bitter and slightly malty. Freaky_tiki (1223) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 27, 2013

This is not what I was expecting. Grabbed this on the way home from work at end of the week thinking this was going to be a treat. Instead what I got was a trick. Iím not saying this is a disaster but itís pretty close. Pours dead out of bottle. Even with hard pour thereís no cap or lacing to think of. Iíve never seen such an unattractive pour. Aroma is busted nose hops, sour in all the wrong ways. Taste is bitter, with enough fresh hop bitterness to avoid a drain pour, but really once again disappointing. Almost think this may be a bad bottle/batch/idea. Iíve had fresh hop brews that work nice -- I recently rated Amsterdamís autumn hop highly -- but this is not working for me. UPDATE: I drain poured this. Seriously wondering if this batch/bottle is bad or if Iím just missing the link. Brutal.
RE-RATE ONE YEAR LATER is radically different. Makes me think that either a) I had a bad bottle or b) the 2014 batch is a dramatic improvement. Regardless, the score now represents the 2014 batch which is a great looking golden pour with a mushy pure white one finger cap. Nice fresh grassy hops. Canít believe Iím saying it after last years disaster but -- recommended.
