Pours deep ruby red with minimal off white head. Nose is molasses, chocolate, caramel, port wine and a hint of earthiness as well as coffee. Tastes like chocolate, butterscotch, coffee, port and dark roast and caramel malts. Interesting palate with a slightly oily texture and a borderline medium/full body with a really rich, sweet, warm finish that hangs around for longer than expected. Needs to age a bit before I revisit this one. May be a little too sticky for drinking this soon. mjs (7370) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JAN 4, 2011
(Bottle, 0.33 l, at Olutkellari Helsinki - rating from memory) The beer poured deep dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma was sweet, malty and mildly roasty. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, sweetness, mild roastedness, molasses, mildly hops and medium bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and malty. Nice balanced beer - not over sweet which is really good. mickut (276) - Espoo, FINLAND - JAN 2, 2011
Bottle. Pours clear, deep red with no head. Taste is sweet, lightly bitter. Palate is full bodied and crisp. Aroma has chocolates, coffee, grains. The crispy palate would definitely mellow out with a bit of aging. SSSteve (4006) - - DEC 31, 2010
bottle. deep burgundy with a small, filmy head. tobacco, fudge, dark chocolate, toasted caramel, earthy mud aroma. flavor has lots of sweet caramel. notes of fudge. silky and velvety palate with a medium-full body. seems to have all the right ingredients for 10+ years of aging. already smooth and easy to drink considering the abv. a great scot BW. hopscotch (11104) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - DEC 29, 2010
Bottle… This beer rocks!… Deep, dark copper ale with a small, creamy, white head. Lasting retention. The bouquet is a luxuriant intermingling of caramel, toffee, ruby port, light molasses and toasted pecans with a splash of coffee. Full-bodied and oily with supple carbonation. The flavor is a complex, lightly vinous, hearty mélange of sweet caramel malts, buttery toffee, crusted port and rich coffee. Malty, but fairly balanced, warming finish. More reminiscent of a Scotch ale than a barley wine. World class beer from a classy, masterful brewery!

caramel, raisin, amber, clear, minimal head, white foam, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, lightly sour, full body, creamy, soft carbonation, long finish,
Fantastisk öl! Komplex och fyllig. Inte alls särskillt spritig trots sin ABV. Lättdrucken. God till ost. redlight (2318) - Orlando, Florida, USA - DEC 17, 2010
11.2 oz bottle. Caramel malts on the nose with spicy squash and brown sugar. Pours amber brown with no head. Strong molasses notes with hints of rum and brown sugar, caramelized malts with hints of toast. Very nice sipping beer, I think with some time it will dry out or atleast the sweetness with be more subdued. Miksu (5053) - Jyväskylä, FINLAND - DEC 16, 2010
0.33 l bottle at Old Brick’s Inn, Jyväskylä. Dark reddish brown color. The aroma and flavor is typical for a well made Scotch ale: Sweet maltiness balanced by gente roasted malts and warming alcohol. Notes of coffee, pine resin, chocolate, almonds and dark fruits. Full bodied, palate is slightly sharp.
Very nice sipper. mikkopen (1165) - Guelph, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 4, 2010
330 ml bottle at Oluthuone Leskinen, Oulu. Clear deep red colour, thin and quickly dissipating tan head. Caramel-sweet aroma with plenty of dried dark fruits. The flavour is syrupy-sweet, with roasted malt, dates, raisins, oak and alcohol warmth. Medium to full-bodied. Another excellent beer from Traquair House. tiong (7278) - Espoo, FINLAND - NOV 30, 2010
330ml bottle @ Hilpeä Hauki, Helsinki
Great barley wine that reminds me of Nøgne’s #100. Well balanced, surprisingly hoppy.
