Door, Helsinki. Deep ambery brown colour, with mediumsized beigeish brown head. Aroma is spices, raisins, some plum and mild alcohol and vanillaish notes. Flavour is spicy, plummy, a bit alcohol aa well as dark dry fruity. Pleasantly balanced.
Deep amber to ruby colour. Thin head vanishes. Complex charter of deep caramel, butter cookies, raisins and a hint of dark chocolate. Caramelly sweet taste developes through multiple layers deepening and finishing slightly sour. Powerful yet very drinkable, velvety and balanced. tiong (7516) - Espoo, FINLAND - NOV 30, 2010

Great barley wine that reminds me of Nøgne’s #100. Well balanced, surprisingly hoppy.
bottle. deep burgundy with a small, filmy head. tobacco, fudge, dark chocolate, toasted caramel, earthy mud aroma. flavor has lots of sweet caramel. notes of fudge. silky and velvety palate with a medium-full body. seems to have all the right ingredients for 10+ years of aging. already smooth and easy to drink considering the abv. a great scot BW. Pours deep ruby red with minimal off white head. Nose is molasses, chocolate, caramel, port wine and a hint of earthiness as well as coffee. Tastes like chocolate, butterscotch, coffee, port and dark roast and caramel malts. Interesting palate with a slightly oily texture and a borderline medium/full body with a really rich, sweet, warm finish that hangs around for longer than expected. Needs to age a bit before I revisit this one. May be a little too sticky for drinking this soon.

Bottle. Poured a deep mahogany color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of dark fruits, caramel, toffee, some earthiness, and some woodiness. Tastes of caramel, dark fruits, lighter earthiness, chocolate, and some roast. Smooth and easy drinking for 10%. emacgee (4704) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - JUN 8, 2011
Pours a rich dextrinous harp ruby brown with one finger of light tan head. Dextrinous nose with notes of caramel and peat followed by raisins and a mild port-like quality. Rich malty flavor, caramel and sweet toasted grain with some fruity esters and peaty notes. Slightly raisiny with a mild alcoholic warmth and full body. zizzybalubba (1880) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - JUN 8, 2011
11.2 oz. bottle from Grape & Gourmet. Dark brown cola-like pour with a creamy off-white head. Aroma of sweet toffee malts and light floral hops. The aroma really reminds me of a Scotch ale. The flavor is heavy on the sweet caramel and toffee malts with little to offer in the way of bitter hops. Those expecting a barely wine may be disappointed but this is a very solid beer. Bottle poured a clear reddish brown with a small lasting tan head. Aromas of prune, raisins, dates, toffee and licorice. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of toffee, licorice, dried fruit and a hint of vanilla with a smooth dry lingering toffee finish.
