Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The traditional brewing process used in the production of Traquair House Ale consists of the following; 1. Traditional infusion mashing process. The wort is then drawn off and boiled during which process the hops are added. 2. The wort is now cooled and pitched with top fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is then transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 17C). Bottle 33 cl - Batch unknown. AROMA: prominent alcohol aroma mixed with moderate malt presence with toasty notes and mild dark caramel. medium-low presence of esters remembering dried plums and grapes. no hop discernible. no diacetyl. APPEARANCE: dark brown color and translucent. moderate-low dark ivory head with medium-low to loe retention. some leg formation. TASTE: malt flavor with notes similar to aroma with medium intensity (toasty, caramel). peppery alcohol present in balance with the malt. esters very faint of dark raisins and plums. low bitterness with a semi-sweet finish. no hop flavor discernible. PALATE: medium-low body with medium-low carbonation. alcohol warmth present but in moderate strength. OVERALL: a wee-heavy with a nice blend of aromas and flavors, with a present alcohol note. would benefit with a bit mode body, carbonation and caramel aroma.

330ml brown bottle poured into a Tulip glass. Appearance is clear mahogany brown with a medium sized frothy beige head that reduced quickly. Aroma of caramel, orange marmalade and toffee. Flavours of caramel, toffee, syrup loaf, brown sugar and orange peels. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter. Palate is full-medium bodied, slightly sticky texture and average carbonation. Overall a decent Scotch Ale.

Clear, dark mahogny colored beer with a beige, two finger high, head.

Nose: Sweet caramel malt, dried fruit, plum, brown sugar and some tea.
Taste: Again caramel malt, nuts, fudge, chocolate and bread. I get some Coca Cola here also! Strange...
Mouthfeel: A bit light... Light carbonation. Medium to light body. A light bitterness at the end.

Smooth and very drinkable!

Appearance: clear deep amber with a short dense light beige head, good retention and patchy lacing. (3/5) Aroma: dark malt, dried fruit, wood. (7/10) Taste: moderate-high sweet, mild bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium-full slightly creamy body, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. (4/5) Another decent brew from Traquair house. Not overly sweet, and decent depth of flavour. These guys might be able to change my opinion on wee heavies (14/20)
