Thick sweet malty low carbonatated creamy scottish great for sipping. Now if that isn’t a great run-on of adjectives I don’t know what is. austinpowers (2828) - New York, New York, USA - JUN 2, 2002
I prefer the Orkney Skullsplitter, personally. Decent flavor and very complex. A bit bitter. Strong and very malty. bierkoning (13201) - La Tropica, NETHERLANDS - JUN 4, 2002
Bought in 1985 and hidden in my cellar all those years. Alc % on the label: 6%. Overwhelming porto aroma. Carbonation has almost disappeared. Porto taste with blackcurrant, raisins and pure chocolate. A bit metallic and buttery aftertaste. A very special beer that has survived 17 years of storage under less than ideal circumstances well. Amber coloured beer with a medium creamy head. Fruity and woody aroma. Rather sweet, sharp taste. Bitter aftertaste. Voivod (304) - Como, ITALY - FEB 10, 2003
Ruby colour with disappearing head. The taste is very complex: it's malty, with light traces of caramel and wine flavour and it's a bit salty. Very particular, but not really my favourite beer.

Typical scottish ale, except this one is overpriced and not near as flavorful as it should be. Definetly tastes better as it warms. Very watered down and weak tasting. skortila (5790) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - DEC 4, 2003
Hoppy smell, bit fruity, some malts. Quite sweet. Dark red coloured, clear. Thin head. Taste is watery, malty, fruity and hoppy. Bit weak. More bitter in the end. SirTom (89) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - DEC 6, 2003
Good, but not as good as previous times I've had it. I prefer their jacobite over this. Hansen (8587) - Assentoft, DENMARK - DEC 23, 2003
Dark brown, ok head. Aroma with lots of malt. The flavor is to salty for me. HoppyBunny (88) - Temptation, Michigan, USA - JAN 11, 2004
Upon first taste it was bitter but smooth, smell of cherry was my first thought. Nice head upon pour, but deminished quickly. For the style of beer it was pretty good.
