COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The traditional brewing process used in the production of Traquair House Ale consists of the following; 1. Traditional infusion mashing process. The wort is then drawn off and boiled during which process the hops are added. 2. The wort is now cooled and pitched with top fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is then transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

Bottled, Filtered, 330ml, aged 4.5yrs. Ruby to brown with beige head. What a beautiful looking beer, it has the appearance of a rich burgundy, but with a head. It is smooth, the ageing has worked particularly well, fusing the parts into one luscious, rounded, full beer. There is a blackcurrant and winey raisin note to it, warming in the alcohol, there is a sweetness on the finish. Very, very good

Very dark amber pour, small head. Smells a bit like a chocolate covered cherry to me, yet there’s almost an overture of vanilla in there somewhere as well. Great mouth feel that’s much less overpowering than I expected -- so smooth and definitely helped by having a fairly low alcohol (I guessed initially that a beer like this might have been up in the 9 range). Nice finish. Strong overall .

An oaky beer, but balnced by nutty maltiness. The finish is acidic and makes you want to keep drinking more. A great beer. Scotland will continue to be a place to watch as their beers are finally showing up more and more here in the sates.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2015 very malty, smokey, and slicker than snot on a glass eye!!! this is a great beer. one of the best of this style, i highly recomend it. it’s a little pricey for the tiny bottle, but totally worth it. 2015 - bigger size for roughly the same price I paid for 10 oz before. takes a while to open up...next time I’ll just slightly chill it. Too cold, it’s good. Near room temp it’s still phenomenal.

Dark copper in colour, head disapearing quickly. Aroma of prunes, maple syrup and dark caramel. Wonderful taste. Aftertaste of dried fruit, toffee, dark caramel balanced with hop bitterness.

flutetokill (523) - Fresno, California, USA - SEP 22, 2002
Very malty, sweet aroma, but more mild malty taste with a hint of caramel. Very complex, almost wine-like flavor. Nice carbonation, and dry finish.

(Rating #292)

12oz brown bottle from Ron’s. Dark brown body with ruby red highlights and a quarter inch of off-white head. Toasty nutty aroma on this one. Tastes like nut, caramel malt, with roasty and burnt malt, with hints of chocolate. Full flavored and complex. Creamy mouthfeel with just enough carbonation to support it. Fairly drinkable for the full-bodiednesss and abv. Fantastic.
