COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The traditional brewing process used in the production of Traquair House Ale consists of the following; 1. Traditional infusion mashing process. The wort is then drawn off and boiled during which process the hops are added. 2. The wort is now cooled and pitched with top fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is then transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

Pours a beautiful dark brown with mahogany highlights and a surprisingly almost whitish head which does not last too long. Nose: sweet malt with some vinous and heather like notes Taste: Tangy vinous dark fruits and heater like almost comes across like soy sauce and dr pepper combined finishing with a lovely touch of smoke and Hop bitterness and flavor in the background coming across slightly spicy. As the beer warms up some raisin like flavors show up with chalky notes as well Mouthfeel for the alcohol and malt richness still finishes nice and light with a long lingering raisiny and smoky finish Overall: Still a classic so much complexity with a such a simple grain bill. The magical smokiness is wonderful a great beer to warm up to on a blustery fall evening

330ml bottle. Small head, minimal lacing. Aroma of toasted malts, chocolate, a little alcohol and wood. The taste is medium sweet and light bitter, dry on the finish with notes of pepper and wood. The palate is medium bodied and chocolatey smooth. Carbonation is light. This is a full flavoured and very good brew.

A deep brown almost black body with a very thin white head that didnt leave much lace. Aroma of malt, caramel, and a hint of licorice. Flavor was similar to the aroma with the flavors taking on a toasted, nutty flavor, kinda earthy. Overall a very smooth beer thats worth a try. Originally rated on 10/23/08

Bottle at home, 29/08/16. Bought a couple of years ago, still BB 2021. Rich aroma - raisens, brown sugar, rum. Dark brown. Thin ring of a beige head. Medium sweet and bodied. Oily finish on the tongue with a burn from the alcohol at the back of the throat. Spices, raisens, something I cant pick out along the lines of almonds. Just been doing DIY so was going to have something lightet but had this at room temperature as nothing in the fridge. Very satisfying.
