Beautiful amber color, hazy, with creamy head. Nice aroma of a coffee bag. The mouthfeel is rather dry. The flavor is just similar to a mug of coffee, and it’s beery just in its carbonation and enhanced bitterness.mcberko (20260) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 13, 2013
Good beer. Maybe drinking it before bedtime was not a good idea…
650mL bottle, pours a hazy amber / bronze with a medium white head. Aroma of pure espresso, not much else, certainly no hops detectable. Flavour brings out moderate espresso upfront, obscuring the hop character which very faded and far back. Tastes quite fresh, with the espresso dominating. As always with this bizarre combination of coffee and IPA, the coffee tends to outdo the hops. Solid stuff though for what it is. Ferris (17779) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 18, 2015
Bottle - Espresso and grapefruit. Clear copper with a decent beige head. Espresso roast, pine and grapefruit with a nice bitterness. I laughed at this now I love it. Better than most Black IPA’s I have had. Well done. DuffMan (10930) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 3, 2015
Bottle. Hazy golden body, lasting white head. Holy Moly! Massive vegetal green coffee aroma and flavour here, earthy undertones, pale malts, solid bitterness. Very well done, but it won’t be for everyone. jonas (8530) - Garching close to the monks, GERMANY - FEB 23, 2015
Bottle. Hazy orange Amber, offwhite lace. Minerally espresso aroma with hop overtones, which seems weird. comes together on the palate: roast, Berrylike coffee notes, almost but not quite vegetal notes, broad hop profile. Mellow medium full creamy body. Dark Ipa without the "dark" and with some unusual complexity. Interesting

650ml bottle pours an amber color with a finger of white head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is dominated by the espresso with some grain and hop notes. Taste is a coffee and hop bitterness with a caramel malty sweetness. If the espresso were a little more subtle I would have scored this higher. Just too much coffee in this for my tastes. (650ml bottle) Purchased at Hillside Liquors. I think I grabbed the last bottle? So, in advanced, I have got to admit that I was skeptical - yet intrigued enough to buy a bottle. Pours a medium almond coloured head atop a reddish copper body. Nose of coffee, dirt and ash. The flavour has depth - the coffee actually amplifies the hop bitterness. Orange piney hops with a real leaf chewiness and grainy coffee sand sludge through the finish. This could be my favorite beer of 2013. Great work Tree!

Fluffy head on dark amber. Smells like I poured my IPA into a dirty coffee cup. A beer for brunch? Strong coffee flavours fron start to the long aftertaste. Not a big pleaser to start. Kind of grows on you. Kind of like IPA filtered through cold coffee grounds. Hops, espresso and a caramelly blend note. tiggmtl (4543) - East York, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 30, 2012
Strong coffee and chocolate coupled with cereal graininess in the nose overpowering any hop character. Clear deep tan-gold body is topped by a decent and long lasting off white head that laces well. Flavour is as the aroma suggests. Coffee and chocolate are up front with a long espresso-like bitterness in the finish. Medium full body with moderate to strong carbonation. Quite drinkable but seems more like a light porter than an IPA. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle purchased at the BCLS at Hellsgate in December 2012. northropfrye (3743) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - DEC 9, 2015
Orange body, off-white bubbly head, nice lacing. Strong aroma of coffee, as you’d expect in a coffee-based imperial stout. Taste is also coffee, obviously, but a touch of sweetness, resin, dry bitter finish, some nuttiness. Over all looks like an IPA but tastes like a coffee stout. Not a lot in the way of IPA taste, really. Still, I think it was surprisingly successful.
