Tree Brewing Company and Giobean Espresso collaborated to brew this occasional rarity, Molto Bella Espresso IPA.

Molto Bella Espresso IPA is brewed using the award winning recipe of Tree Brewing IPAs infused with Giobean’s own special blend of the finest espresso.

The result is a full bodied brew with notes of citrus, grapefruit and pine balanced with treacle sweetness of toffee, marzipan, roasted almonds and undertones of dark, slightly spiced chocolate.

(650ml bottle) Purchased at Hillside Liquors. I think I grabbed the last bottle? So, in advanced, I have got to admit that I was skeptical - yet intrigued enough to buy a bottle. Pours a medium almond coloured head atop a reddish copper body. Nose of coffee, dirt and ash. The flavour has depth - the coffee actually amplifies the hop bitterness. Orange piney hops with a real leaf chewiness and grainy coffee sand sludge through the finish. This could be my favorite beer of 2013. Great work Tree! --- reviewed on RateBeer.com

Coffee is not a taste that should ever have a dry texture. While it looks nice (darker brass colour) and smells nice (freshly-ground coffee beans), the taste seems extremely forced.

22oz bottle. Nice hop profile with a bit of tropical hop flavoring. Really melds with the sharp espresso and herbal favoring. I think these go quite together beautifully. Love it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

650ml bottle. Pours a dark orange with a white head. Aroma is coffee beans, grassy and piney hops on the background. Taste is hoppy piney bitter, cold coffee. Sounds good, but in fact the beer is totally unbalanced.

Very alluring aroma, alluding to the intense flavors this brew has to offer. Strong citrus scent. Amber appearance, very frothy. Pine, almonds and grapefruit assault the tongue before lending afternotes of chocolate. Fizzy on the tongue, medium body. Overall a great beer, very refreshing and bursting with flavors.

Bottle. Burnt orange in colour with medium carbonation. Lots of floaties at the bottom that I managed to avoid. Aromas are of strong espresso, a bit of pine bark and even less white grapefruit peel. Decidedly espresso forward in the mouth, along with some evergreen astringency. Fairly bitter and somewhat lighter bodied than expected. I’ve had other examples of coffee infused IPAs before, but this one seems the least balanced.

Appearance: clear medium amber with two fingers of rocky ivory head diminishing gradually to a thin skim, patchy lacing. (2/5) Aroma: overwhelmingly strong coffee grounds, not much else. (3/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate-strong bitter. (3/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, harsh astringent finish. (2/5) Starts off really quite unpleasant: harsh coffee ground aromas (as in, grounds in the trash) that then persist through the glass. Doesn’t improve with warming or acclimatization. I tried to like this, but I pretty rapidly hit the point of “screw and dump it”. Really quite surprisingly nasty, to the point that I can’t reconcile what I’m seeing, with other reviews. Avoid this at all costs. (6/20)

northropfrye (3732) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - DEC 9, 2015
Orange body, off-white bubbly head, nice lacing. Strong aroma of coffee, as you’d expect in a coffee-based imperial stout. Taste is also coffee, obviously, but a touch of sweetness, resin, dry bitter finish, some nuttiness. Over all looks like an IPA but tastes like a coffee stout. Not a lot in the way of IPA taste, really. Still, I think it was surprisingly successful.

Bottle. Deep murky amber pour with an off-white head. Aroma is citrus and tropical fruit with roasty coffee. Taste is weird - some nice citrusy IPA notes, but kind of overwhelmed by coffee - flavourful but pretty weird. Doesn't really come together.

andrewturba (1190) - Alberta, CANADA - APR 17, 2015
Pours a hazy copper with a bunch of suspended sediment, a medium sized off white head and a bunch of lace. Aroma is espresso, nutty, almond milk, treacle, and citrus/tropical fruit. Flavour is espresso, medium-high bitterness, citrus, treacle, and some nutty almond notes. We’ll balanced and really enjoyable.

Reimer96 (1778) - Alberta, CANADA - APR 17, 2015
Wow I wasn’t expecting this beer to be this well balanced! Aroma of coffee, citrus, grapefruit, almond milk and treacle. Taste is treacle, almond milk, citrus, grapefruit, resin, bitter espresso in the finish. Nice dry finish for such a full bodied complex beer that has a great balance of espresso, hops and malts...a trifecta!
