Expect a smooth finishing dry style Stout with harmonious flavors of coffee, roast and chocolate. Aged in Quails’ Gate Vineyards Marechal Foch barrels for one year, the time in barrel has definitely mellowed out the roasted edges of the malt and added in layers of dark fruit and oak notes. A wonderfully complex brew, coming in at a sessionable 5% ABV and 35 IBU, it will be perfect for enjoying during the early part of the Fall season.

Tasting at SF
Black color. Aroma of dark bread, light chocolate; the body is dry and weak, hints of chocolate and red wine.
Barrel aging a weak dry Stout is a weird idea.

750ml bottle @ the office. Pours an opaque brown with a tiny head. Nose hints of a toasted malt. Flavour is bitter with that toasted character, it is rather thin with a slight wine character in the background.

750ml bottle shared at Brian’s office. Pours a very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is roasted malt with some grainy notes. Same taste, with some sour notes and quite high roasted malt bitterness. Meh.

Bottle - Dark sweet roast and some red barrel. Deep brown with a small light brown head. Dark and roasty with a light body and some light red vinous notes.

Dark brown. Only a little bit of head. A little bit toasty, with some cocoa notes. Thin and more or less chocolatey. A little vinous character, touch of wood, but that’s really about it. I’m not thinking this has the complexity I’d like to see - really the beer came out okay but conceptually it needed to be a stronger beer.

Bottle, shared with my in-laws. Dark brown, amber highlights, beige head. Dark roast with modest vinous notes and mild sour/tartness that brings to mind cherries. Medium bodied, aggressively carbonated. Not bad.

[8931-20161209] 750mL bottle. Light cooked peas and roasty cocoa aroma. Black body with a creamy brown head. Roasted cocoa tangy dark fruit flavour. Medium-full body. Interesting. (7/3/8/4/15) 3.7

Overheard: "Audrey sounds like Flanders." "Stupid sexy Flanders."

750ml capped bottle pours a deep brown colour with a finger of white head that leaves some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is wine grapes with some yeast and roasted grains and chocolate. Taste is a fruity and chocolate malty sweetness with a roasted grain bitterness finishing quite dry on the tongue. Light to medium bodied with good carbonation that pleases the palate. Overall, a tasty brew that should be tried. Recommended.

[Bottle (750ml) shared w/ GregClow, jercraigs & mabel -- c/o GregClow] Pours black with an average size lasting frothy tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, buckwheat, chocolate, light hops and some coffee. Flavour of roasted malt, chocolate, vinous notes and light leafy hops. Medium bodied. Quite good.

jercraigs (11166) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 15, 2016
2016-12-09. Black body with a nice foamy brown head. 4+ Aroma is interesting, fruity red wine over lightly dusty dark malt. 7+ Flavour is similar, fruity grape and lightly vinous character. 7+ Smooth average bodied palate, soft carbonation. 3+ Relatively subtle, surprisingly well balanced. 7/4/7/3/16+ Bottle shared by GregClow.
