Brownhoist draws its name from the rich industrial history of Bay City. Industrial Brownhoist was once a major manufacturer of industrial cranes, where many are still in operation today! Our Nut Brown Ale is medium bodied with a rich mahogany-brown color. We use five different types of premium-malted barley and two hop varieties for the malty flavor with a perfect balance of bitterness and sweetness.

12 oz bottle from beer of the month club. Ive never heard of this brewery, so Im intrigued. Over carbonated?? - a gentle pour into a pint glass erupted quickly with massive thick head. Took 5 minutes just to pour this. Lightly roasted aroma. Body is pretty thin for this style. Pleasant bread and cereal notes but unbalanced taste. Minimal hop flavor. Metallic aftertaste mentioned by others is noticeable. Hard to recommend.

Pours dark brown. Thats about the only thing that matches a brown. Mild, sweet aroma. Only a mild malty taste to speak of. No nuttiness, no nothing. A bit watery. Tap at brewery.

Pours brown with minimal head. Well carbonated though in the mouth feels like a soda. Slight aroma of roasted malts but not much. Medium to light in body. Overall not much going on. Drinkable but not much more.

12 oz. bottle shared by DrSilverworm. Pours brown with reddish highlights and a small beige head. The aroma is, well, pretty much not there. Perhaps some very light toasted malts and some herbal notes. The flavor is pretty basic brown ale stuff; dry, light roast, a hint of chocolate and some earthy notes. Nothing bad, just not much to it at all.

Sample from a 12oz bottle. Brown but clear color. Little light brown head, few dots of lace. Good light smooth carbonation, dry texture, medium body. Nice light chocolate toasty malt aroma. Mostly bitter taste, little bittersweetness. Good earthy hops. This is a nice brown ale. I havent been too impressed with the few Ive had from this brewery, but I do like this.

Sample at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 07/20/2012. Brown pour with medium foamy beige head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of toasted malt and fruit. Light-bodied with flavors of chocolate malt, fruit and slight hops. The finish is sweet with a short malt aftertaste. Fairly average overall.

Bottle. Aroma has notes of toasted caramel and chocolate malted barley, coffee and bittering hops. Very dark brown that sits nearly black in the glass. Average light tan head that mostly diminished and left little lace. Flavor is medium to heavy sweet and medium bitterness. Palate is medium bodied and oily soft. Overall a decent brew that smells better than it tastes. Ok though.
