Pours old motor oil black with a toffee colored head decent lacing. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate.
Taste is bitter sweet, chocolate, coffee. Astringent finish, creamy and chewy. Over all not my style but if you are a fan of black coffee this is your beer. gorditoabd (636) - San Diego, California, USA - AUG 19, 2012
Bottle at my dad’s house in Whitehall, Mi. Pours a dark creamy color, with just the faintest hint of brown sugar colored foam. Aromas are of leather, anise, earth, coffee, and chocolate. Taste is a very nice match to the nose, with a oily-creamy mouthfeel and middling thickness. Only complaint about this brew is that it gets a little muddled at the finish, but overall is a very solid offering. Also, it is not the most "Russian" of RISs I’ve ever had. All told, though, a really nice brew. gabbama (203) - Dayton, Ohio, USA - JUN 8, 2012
Pours pitch black with a thin brown head. Sweet chocolatey aroma with dark fruits, bread, and a hint of alcohol. Dark fruits really take center stage in the flavor with chocolate, toast, and vanilla. It seems a bit thin for an imperial stout. The finish is clean. It’s not my favorite imperial stout, it was worth trying. ICEatALAMO (1350) - Troy, Michigan, USA - MAY 22, 2012
bottle. Pours dark with little to no head. Aroma is strong with coffee and chocolate, and probably rivals some of the best stouts out there. After such a great aroma I was expecting more in the flavor. Got a lot of malt in the taste, a little coffee and chocolate. It actually tastes fairly light for a RIS, and surprised it is that high of a ABV. It is a fairly easy RIS to drink, finishes clean. wmubronco1992 (709) - Coldwater, Michigan, USA - APR 6, 2012
Bottle. Pours a very opaque black. Darker tan head. Aroma of licorice. Flavor is black coffee. Maybe even burnt coffee. Lots of roast. Big bodied. Bitterness makes this a sipper. To me this pushed the edge of bitterness in a stout, but it didn’t quite cross the line. Enjoyable, but not easy drinking.

12oz bottle. Poured a dark black with a large sized tan head. Aromas of roast, cocoa, and coffee. Tastes of roast, caramel, coffee, some dark fruits, and chocolate. Hollywoodt (240) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - MAR 20, 2012
Bottle. Poured a dark brown with a minimal tan head. Aroma was of roasted malts, with a little chocolate. Flavor was more of the same. I’d have it again. sliqjonz (32) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - FEB 25, 2012
Real big taste upfront, but fades quickly, good nose, nice weight to it, real clean finish

12 oz.... Really good...a Starbucks Red Eye with a double shot of espresso is the flavor. Black, oily, roasty goodness. Another reason to love Michigan in January. beerbill (3619) - Laurel, New York, USA - JAN 5, 2012
12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with mikem409. Pours black with a moderate, slightly fizzy light brown head that is gone before the first quarter of the glass and leaves light lace. Pleasant aroma of roasted malt with notes of chocolate and just a bit of dark fruit. The flavor is similar with lots of roasted malt along with some chocolate and just a bit of dark fruit. Full bodied. No problems.
