Cask & Bottle Conditioned; Occasional.
Originally brewed on October 25th to commemorate the Charge of the Light Brigade. Now brewed in January and matured for 11 months to be sold over Christmas and New Year. The prolonged storage provides an extremely drinkable ale for its strength. A strong, dark aromatic and estery barley wine.

The_Osprey (8197) - Richmond, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 31, 2014
Gravity cask at Bree Louise. Dark brown, some sediment floating around, small white head. Aroma - chocolate, malts, esters. Body is medium, smooth, low carbonation. Taste - treacle, thin gravy, fig. Alcoholic finish. OK - for me it’s an old ale rather than a barley wine as stated on Ratebeer.

Mr_Pink_152 (5093) - Lincoln, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - MAR 28, 2014
330ml bottle from Grumpy Goat, Reading. Clear reddish brown colour, no head and no carbonation. Aroma is caramel, alcohol, sweet barley. Taste is a dull version of the same.

Lagerboy (2221) - British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 18, 2014
330 ml bottle. Clear red copper, tan foam vanishes. Pungent toffee malty aroma and taste, caramel cola, vinous dark fruitiness, mild earthy spiciness, smooth and a little slick. Soft to flat carbonation, medium-full bodied, moderately hopped. ABV well hidden, port-ish finish. Nice enough easy drinking English Strong Ale, but still: DNFL (Definitely Not For Lagerboys)

jjsint (3202) - Leicester, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - MAR 8, 2014
Cask @ Lamb, Stoke Goldington. Cola-coloured brown with a shade of ruby. Smell of alcohol, almost whisky-like. Sweet caramel taste with warming edges. Sweet smoky finish with a hint of bitterness. Sublime and intense.

ansjelaah (1748) - Oirschot, NETHERLANDS - JAN 3, 2014
Fles op Borefts’13, dankzij Martinus. De kleur is koper/bruin, heldere kleur en een witte schuimkraag. Ruikt en smaakt zoet, wijn, fruitig, beetje alc. drank. Wel lekker.

Martinus (4610) - Baarle-Nassau, NETHERLANDS - OCT 7, 2013
Clear caramel colour, white head. Aroma of malts, some hops, caramel, quite pronounced nuts, some hay. Sweet malty flavour, light bitter hops, caramel, light butterscotch. Sweet malty finish, butterscotch. Nice brew!
(From 33cL bottle shared @ Borefts ’13. With thanks to the crew of Grim Reaper Foods for saving me the bottle at Dutch Chili Fest!)

bierkoning (13387) - La Tropica/Doarp, NETHERLANDS - OCT 6, 2013
From bottle @ Borefts 2013. Amber color. Peach, lychee and toffee in the aroma. Grassy earthy floral hops and some ripe fruit in the alcoholic flavor. Decent, but no top class.

PotjeBier (3450) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - OCT 4, 2013
Bottle @ BBF ’13, courtesy of Countbeer (I think). Aroma’s: sweet malts, honey, fruit. Flavor is moderate sweet. Medium bodied. Finishes slightly dry and moderate bitter. Decent.

minutemat (5659) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - OCT 2, 2013
330ml bottle from some big supermarket somewhere. Malty aroma, sickly sweet figs and liquorice coming from first sip with some warming Autumnal shades of malts, nuts, berries & raisins emerging as you journey on. Wasn’t sure I liked this at first. Now I think I do.

Also it should be mentioned that this is brewed every year to commemorate the anniversary of the 1854 Charge of the Light Brigade, something Iron Maiden’s ’The Trooper’ ale is also named after. If only Iron Maiden’s attempt had as much venom and strength as this. You listening Bruce?

Countbeer (6591) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - SEP 30, 2013
[email protected]: Off white lacing on top of a clear amber copper colored beer. Aromas of barley malts, nuts, hay, cream, smooth spices, pilsmalts... Flavours of cream, malts, herbs, hint of butterscotch, leaves, bitters and autumnal herbs. Aftertaste is a mix of leaves, light dry, bitters... Low carbo, soft creamy mouthfeel, medium to fuller body and a creamy texture.
