First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

Tap at Small City Taphouse. Pour is light amber. Head is weak and goes quick. Nose is light and reminds me of light mead. Body is a bit thin and light. Refreshing and lemon shines thru. Alcohol is crazy weak taste despite the 8.4%. Dangerous. Not a great tripel in my mind but would be a good summer brew. Reminds me of wheat and lemon brews but just a bit more complex.

UPDATED: OCT 17, 2017 On bottle. Pours hazy yellow, with nice white top. The scent is fruity, and a little alcoholic. The taste is really intense, it has a lot of spices, and the aftertaste is long. It's sweet, with a little bitterness, mostly from fruits (I suppose). You can't taste the high alcoholpercentage, which is nice.

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2017 Pale yellow with some cloudiness. Large white head. A crisp non oily mouth feel. Much better than I expected.

Pours pale golden-yellow with a thick and creamy white top. Looks very similar to a witbier. Typical belgian aroma, yeasts, citrus but some banana in evidence too. Taste is straightforward sweet, not very complex. Very high carbonation, too much almost. Not the best tripel around but nice.

Bottle at La Putika. Aroma of citruses, spices, lemon. Pale yellow colour with lacing white head. Taste of citruses, honey, medium sweet. Nice one.
