First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

A pretty good tripel. Im not that big of a fan of tripels though, so I might be unappreciative. The color is light amber with a fruity, yeasty aroma. The flavor is light, energetic, creamy, yeasty, and fruity. Im quite surprised the alcohol content is as high as it is. If I see this again for a good price, I will buy it.

The only thing average about this beer is the color. Golden with a nice creamy white head, average lacing. Extremely carbonated at first taste. Great sweet yeast aroma, sweet fruity hints. Alcohol well hidden, spiced flavor.. light fruits and yeast. For the price, really enjoyed this triple.

Draught: Candy coated banana aroma, very sweet with nice malt notes. Dark Yellow on the verge of light brown. Nice soft fluffy head. The flavor is easily compared to banana flavored runts: Very sweet to sour over ripened bananas with some sweet raisin flavor in the finish. Full bodied and velvety smooth.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2008 Bottle (330ml). Bastard of a thing exploded upon opening, the bottle cap hit the roof! literally. Poured a mazy off orange colour with a tinge of brown and a good size, dense frothy head which was mostly lasting. Aroma was of orange zest, some malt, hints of cloves, mild bready notes and light vanilla in the back. Flavor was suburb and a lot more intense than aroma; more orange zest, dried apricots, some yeast, malt, light cinnamon, and a spicy/warming finish. Full bodied with lively carbonation, quite creamy mouthfeel and a great finish. I superb Tripel.

Large 750 champagne bottle. Green glass. Pours a nice golden color with a massive creamy head. Smells like czech hops. Sour skunky nose. Taste is completly different. Honey, yeasty, spice, sweetness, lemon and more. Really a great beer, and its a damn shame I drank it out of a solo cup.

Bottle. Pours a clear gold with a thick white head. Huge bubbles. Big fruity (lemony and banana) aroma with yeast and a touch of spice. Fairly sweet, with honey and lemon flavors dominating. Some malty flavors as well.

Poured this into a tulip glass and was immediately rewarded with a big white head on the beer that gave of a fantastic aroma of fruit and yeast. Flavor was a bit spice but very smooth. A nice complex beer that leaves you guessing and wanting more.

hazy golden amber with a huge head that practically needs to be fought down. lemon citrus aroma with yeast and the lightest banana note. very soft, creamy body that is medium thin. lemons and honeyed yeast flavor, followed by a light creamy spiciness. dry and almost champagne like. this beer is very smooth pleasant, but full flavored. beautifully balanced and well made.

Bottle. Pours hazy, bubbly amber with amazing retention. Pungent floral, citric-like notes in the aroma, with mediciney yeast and some sweet fruit. Flavor is a melange of layered grain flavors, with citrus fruit, orange peel and medicine overtones. Finish has more citrus, bitterenss and a bit of soapiness. Textured, lively mouthfeel. Champagne-like palate.
