First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

Bitek (803) - Warszawa, POLAND - OCT 5, 2017
Przyprawy (z przewagą kolendry i goździka), trochę owocowych estrów, nieco alkoholu. Średnio treściwe, dość wytrawne. Średnia goryczka, wysokie, musujące wysycenie. Elegancka i stonowana klasyka, chociaż bez jakiegoś nadzwyczajnego zachwytu.

Lovely beer with complex flavours, clear wheat notes and hints of tropical fruit. It would probably gain even more flavours if you'd store it, but in my home a bottle of it wouldn't survive that long.

Mariox (340) - Warsaw, POLAND - OCT 1, 2017
W aromacie chmiel, estry, banan, trochę drożdże. W smaku dość słodkie, delikatnie goryczkowe. Bardzo prawidłowy i smaczny tripel.

Bottle 330 ml from Waitrose. Aromas of malts, hay and yeast. Big white head and hazy pale golden body. Taste is malts, hay, yeast, spices and alcohol. Complex for sure and very enjoyable. Leaves a long and rich aftertaste. Very good beer!

UPDATED: SEP 29, 2017 Imported from Belgium, Tripel Karmeliet is a Blond Belgian Ale. The smell of bananas, pear, and yeast are noted as you take a drink. The yeast used has a light spice that is sensed from beginning to end. The mouthfeel has a very creamy complexion. An ample clove presence compliments the spice we experience. The alcohol content is 8.4% and sneaks up on you. The flavor of banana is rich to go along with the Belgian yeast used. Pear is light and fluidly harmonizes with the body of the beer. Green apple is extremely faint, but it is easier to taste in the finish. The beer is produced from three grains: oats, barley, and wheat. The wheat yields it character due to the Blonde quality of the beer. Barley is comprehended when you listen long and hard to the body of the beer. It's as if you feel it at the back of your throat. Oats is felt in the finish, but it takes a long time to notice unless you listen carefully to what your taste buds tell you. Tripel Karmeliet is an impeccable and infectious beer to drink. An extraordinary feel of clove and yeast spice blends with the banana and creamy body. The grains of oats, barley, and wheat brings a beautiful complexity to this Belgian Blonde. Tripel Karmeliet is a delicious Belgian that stands out from the rest. Cheers. Prost. Drink for the love of beer. For more beer reviews, visit my blog 'Drink For the Love of Beer.'
