First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

Superb golden color, a little hazy. Nice creamy long lasting head, nice lacing as well. Aroma is complex and refined with bread, bananas, peaches and citrus, spiced with coriander, pepper, cloves and some vanilla. No alcohol in the aroma. Taste has the same complexity, balance and refinement. Sweet-bitter and fruity, discretely seasoned with spices. The alcohol is very discrete as well and the aftertaste is long and relatively intense. Mouth feel is creamy and velvety, warm and pleasant. For me this really is the perfect tripel and it brings me joy every time I taste it.

Smaczny i stylowy tripel, no ale #nudnabelgia. :P

Banana, clove, doughy, spicy, hint of citrus & vanilla. Lively carbonation, light mouth feel, touch of salt. Clove, slight sour note, lemon juice, citrusy bitterness, mouthwatering dryness. (bottle bb 12/15/17)

A 330ml bottle with a best before date of 12th March 2017. Poured into a Chimay goblet. It poured a wonderful clear golden colour with a two finger foamy white head that had pretty good retention, nice curtain lacing that eventually settles to a thin foamy cap. Aromas are wheaty, banana, clove and peach with light citrus and vanilla. Tastes zesty lemon sweetness, sour peach gummy candy, yeast, lightly bready and spicy with a hint of honey, banana and clove. Creamy, medium bodied with moderate to high carbonation with some obvious booziness every now and then. Overall, wow, this has to easily be one of my favourite Tripels and I cant believe its taken me this long to try it. It would be almost perfect if the booziness was toned down a bit. Having said that, its still a great beer and easily a must buy beer for me.

From bottle. Poured with a medium head with large bubbles and decent retention. Colour is remarkably light straw and unfortunately put me in mind of urine which was re-inforced by the catty aroma! Theres more to the aroma than just the negatives though and hints of booze, vanilla, and a Triples sweetness are there too. Beer drinks quite easy with characteristic Beligian Triple sweetness and character, I detected a hint of peach at times. I found it complex and interesting and want to go back for another.

330ml from Vergelegen Tops. Pours a clear yellow wih a white head that lasts for days. Aromas of pear, berries, white pepper. Palate has a full body and medium carbonation. Flavours of citrus with a fast-rising hop bitterness that lingers, with some alcohol warmth that is very pleasing. Long, fruity bitter finish. Fantastic example.
