First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

No i chyba się nie znam na Triplach. Nie powiedziałbym, że to numer jeden na świecie. Aromat bananowo-brzoskwiniowy, trochę skórki od chleba. W smaku słodkawo, przyjemnie, piwnicznie; tu również banany i troszkę mocno dojrzałych śliwek. Niegłupie. I co mam powiedzieć, że piłem lepsze?

Pours opaque pale straw with a thin white head that doesn’t last long. Nose is banana. Taste is very carbonated up front with some banana and clove notes and mild earthiness to finish. Very light and not overly sweet. Great on a hot day.

From bottle in Belgian ale glass. Pours golden, slightly hazy with big billowing head. Banana is obvious in nose and taste, and (as others commented) cloves and white pepper along with high CO2 make for spicy, zesty finish
